I get anything can happen and has happened before, but this feels more like asking the Titanic to unsink. My guess is that Fresno was not swept multiple times in a row before going on a big run at the right time.

They were a preseason top 25 team that horribly underachieved and had to win their conference tournament to get a bid. I don't know how their season unfolded week in and week out, but at least on the surface, there are similarities.

That team was an older roster of mostly juniors and seniors that could absolutely rake.

But anyway, I’m in

I do know they faced elimination the maximum number of times in both the ncaa tournament and in their own conference tournament

They weren't swept in 5 of their last 6 conference series. But like you said, they weren't getting into the NCAAT without winning their conference tournament. I guess if LSU was looking for any type of hope, it would be a combo of 2008 Fresno and 2022 Ole Miss.

Ole Miss was the last at-large bid to the tournament. They lost their first and only game in Hoover. Yes, they were playing MUCH better in May than LSU did this year. But they were also a team who was ranked No. 1 at one point in the season before barely getting into the tournament...and then getting hot all the way to the NC.

They closed out the WAC season losing 3/4 to Nevada, winning 3/4 over San Jose St, and losing 2/4 to Sacramento ST. They were 34-27 overall playing in the WAC entering their conference tournament. But they also got to play in the WAC tournament, not the SEC tournament to get a bid and also only needed to win 4 games as opposed to 5, and no one got double byes in that WAC tournament.

Something tells me Fresno had better pitching but technically I guess stranger things have happened

They were closer to 2024 LSU. They weren't the unmitigated disaster that we saw this year.
