That's like arguing recruiting violations are none of the NCAA's business.

No sir!

Recruiting violations affect fairness and competition. PEDs affect fairness and competition. Officials with thumbs on the scale affect fairness and competition.

Kids having LEGAL fun in their own time does not.

This fricked up logic is why, every year, talented athletes, both critical and non-critical, have to sit out of important games and sometimes cost their teams victories after failing drug tests, all because these dumbass guys put their own desires ahead of their teams’ needs. To all you pothead athletes who think you’re bigger than the game: have. seat. You’re NOT more important than the rules, like them or not; archaic or not; fair or not. The rules are simple. Follow them or sit your arse on the bench.

All of the responses to the OP stating that smoking weed shouldn't be an offense are either stupidly or intentionally missing the point of his post. He didn't say that the NCAA policy makes sense. His point is that AS LONG AS it is the NCAA policy to prohibit it and to test for it before playoff season, LSU should enforce its policy in order to protect the team and its players from the adverse consequences of an NCAA violation.
Put your brains in gear before engaging your keyboard.

So if the NCAA policy is a half year suspension for interracial dating, LSU should check out our players for that "offense" and enforce the NCAA penalty if any "violations" are discovered????

Has it ever occurred to anyone here that the NFL is driving this?

The NFL has substance abuse policies probably because the owners don’t want to give a hundred million dollar contract to a drug addict that’s going to blow it all. Testing in college is identifying these players.

And I think it’s totally absurd that they test for weed in college. I’m just saying it probably has zero to do with morality and everything to do with business. That’s usually how things work in this world.

Why not stand-up for common sense? The "rules are rules" argument is lazy.

The rules won't be changed in the middle of a season. You can oppose a rule or law and still insist that it be followed so long as it remains a rule. The risk exists and exposing yourself to it and weakening your team at a crucial time in the season indicates selfishness.

It’s not the 70s anymore get over it old piece of shite it is stupid weed will get you suspended when it is already legal in some states and will be legal every where in 10-20 years but keep spreading your stupidity you probably don’t have many years left anyway

Good Lord. That is the longest run-on sentence I have witnessed in my lifetime. I bet you are out of breath. You might want to refrain from pointing out your perceived stupidity of someone else until you examine your own.

Wow. Nice comeback. Very relevant to the question at hand.

I'd continue along this line of bitching back and forth with name calling and such, but I will say that you are indeed correct with your thoughts on addictive prescribed drugs. The medical field does indeed turn a lot of folks into addicts with their prescriptions.

I have, in recent times, been able to make friends with a few former player (one former LSU player in particular) who have suffered from CTE. Canabinoids [sp?] have been very helpful in alleviating the pain and symptoms associated with CTE. It's not recreational use, however.

Insofar as recreational use goes, I have no issue with it. But when it is forbidden fruit for players, then I think it best to leave it alone.

The argument that something is less harmful than something else is bogus and is only used by those of weak mindset.

Some would say that huffing paint is less harmful than shooting heroin. Does that mean that it's cool to huff paint?

I hope you can understand the point, but seeing that you try to validate a point by attacking a screen name makes we wonder about your level of maturity and your ability to reason.

It is my understanding that during season it is at the discretion of the school to test for weed, but during playoffs/bowl games it is part of test.

How did "standing up " work out for Colin Kapernick? Nobody will touch him with a 10 ft pole now.
CK had every right to stand up for what he believed in. He also had the right to suffer the repercussions. His biggest problem though was that he wasn't a great quarterback. If he was, he'd still be playing.

This is not an argument over legalization. It should be legal.
It is an argument of a bunch of minors possibly fricking up the best chance they will ever have in life by getting high. I gave up weed for 10 years because of a job. There should not be a question on whether or not these guys should be smoking weed. Until they do not test, do no smoke.

Researchers are finding out LONG term marijuana is a lot more harmful than believe 10 years ago. Google this if you are doubting this. Stop believing it’s harmless. It’s kills Brain cells. Plus memory loss and lung damage also are long term effects.

I've read the increased potency of weed has led to a much higher addiction rate in states that have legalized it than was predicted. Go figure.
