Sweet Baby Jesus!!!! Does your entire life revolve around Nick Saban?
Can't some of you enjoy LSU just for being LSU without bringing in the coach from another team?

I'm stunned after one game so many people think we have a complete offense. We have a chance to be a competent complete offense but we have to develop more thru the season.

After one game we know we have this.

A better qb making better decisions. But he still can't feel corner blitzes. (It was just one game he needs to string more together)

Two wide receivers with a drop off pretty quick after that. (We have to develop a 3rd guy and hopefully they get there)

Great running backs that are good blockers but can't whiff on thier assignments like Blue did. That will get Mett hurt.

A competent pass blocking oline

A so so run blocking oline (this groups needs to get better a run blocking as we move along this year)

No inside receiving threats as of yet. (I'm not saying we don't have the guys they just need to get better as we move along. I understand tcu schemes didn't allow for this but we have to get a te and rb that we can pass to survive our schedule)

An untested kicker

Clock management issues again.

And lastly, a coach that has hinted he would like to get the untested true freshman mobile quarterback more playing time.

Those are all the things we still have or have to develop as we go thru the season. And by the way we have one of the toughest schedules in all of college football.

Don't get me wrong, this team can do great things this year but its not national championship or bust for me. Not at least until I see more things come together.

Cam is a good coach but I'm not worried about losing him or signing him long term before I see what he can do with the players thru a whole season.

Can agree with all that you said, though I don't see those as hurdles we'll have to face later in the season (with the exception being the schedule)

Didn't see any clock management gaffes, however.

No, I dont mean them as hurdles one, two, and three we have to complete. I just see these are things the team needs to be their best and beat each team they face and I want to see how Cam handles them before I even start to think about Retaining Cam long term like the op suggested.

The clock management was at the end of the half when lsu took a time out and got a delay of game right after. That was easily explained away by les as just a gaffe, but moving forward I hope we don't have another clock issue that hurts us.

I don't see why people are assuming the offensive improvements are due to cam. I think the improvements are due more to mett having another year of experience and a good ol. add in experienced wrs and cam was handed a very good situation.

I guess the one that allowed me to see that the defense and special teams scored just as many points as the offense did.
Wrong. That O was 2nd only to 2007 in offensive TDs, but pretty much even with '03 in D scoring.
Did you berate the '03 offense too?

How many games in 2011 did we pass for over 200 yards?
I think it was like 5, not that it matters.
2008 had 7 or 8 games 200+. Yaaaay pass yds!!!!

But what of Cameron? It seems like he's been the missing link in this team's championship aspirations for the last 3-4 years and based on the VAST improvements visible in the offense this weekend, and the incoming recruiting classes, I would say the "Golden Age" of LSU football may not have started yet.

Cam Cameron is what the LSU offense needed. The main thing that Cam needs to do is light a fire under "Stud the Dud." Too bad the "DuD" didn't leave with Crowton.

But is his loyalty akin to Chavis's in that he might pass up better/higher paying opportunities to stay with an old friend?

Lets hope. He signed a three year deal at >1.0 mil per year. That is way up there in the OC pay range...

And 4 with under 100. That's only a competent offense if you run the triple option.

And the second we don't have a good offensive performance, you'll be one of the fans screaming for Miles' and Cam's heads

quote:Offense was not COMPLETE in 2011 Agreed. But the original poster stated (in his second post) that it was not "competent". That's just plain wrong, and you could look it up. Only against Alabama (twice) did the offense fail to score in double digits, and only once fewer than 20. The team averaged 41 points a game in games against opponents not named Alabama. The original poster also stated that half of those points were scored by the defense or special teams. The blatant misrepresentations of how effective that team's offense was do a disservice to the entire team.

it's a good thing you reminded of how awesome the offense was. that JJ was something special. in fact, his whole 8 year career was a thing of beauty.

"this team WILL be destined for greatness with Miles, Chavis, and Cameron for as long as they all remain on staff."

- per my OP

You obviously haven't seen much of the practice video with Cam Cameron during the spring and pre-season have you? To those who have kept up, they understand:
- we ran 80 plays in the last game stressed by being more up tempo (not no-huddle) which is pushed during practice (Cam Cameron change).
- We see more catches (improvement by CC making receivers catch balls in practice around and through dummies and goal posts) and certainty/confidence of the QB making throws. - Also the pass routes have been changes to a number system by CC.
- The pass protection may well be a by-product of Stud and Miles giving the o-line their undivided attention now.

Granted we do have better personnel along the OL than a year ago, but all of them are learning a new position. In terms of numbers, Mett is picking up where he left off after Bama, but Cam's influence is responsible for these games being "routine" from here on out.

And 6 with 200+ rushing, and 6 or 7 with about 400-500 in total O, not that it matters.
All that matters is LSU points > opp points, and '11 offense had 2nd most in school history, plus greatest MoV since facemasks.
