Reconciling Offensive Improvements with Retaining Cam

Chavis was an A+ hire for Miles. He's had top defenses year after year despite shifting personnel and this year seems to be no different. Based on his track record at Tennessee, the Chief will be here putting out top defenses until he and/or Miles retire.
But what of Cameron? It seems like he's been the missing link in this team's championship aspirations for the last 3-4 years and based on the VAST improvements visible in the offense this weekend, and the incoming recruiting classes, I would say the "Golden Age" of LSU football may not have started yet.
But is his loyalty akin to Chavis's in that he might pass up better/higher paying opportunities to stay with an old friend?
This fear is going to be gone by Saturday and I'll be enjoying the ride again, but this team WILL be destined for greatness with Miles, Chavis, and Cameron for as long as they all remain on staff.

Pump the brakes. We still have a long way to go. I am excited about the offense looking competent but we have only seen one game. I am cautiously optimistic but I wouldn't go calling Cameron the missing link in this team's championship aspirations just yet.

Sorry, dude, but I'm in total free-fall right now. A competent offense is all we've needed to be the elite standard of college football since 2010. Now that it APPEARS that we've got it, I'm drunk off the kool-aid.
Like I said, keep the HC, OC, and DC intact and we'll make Saban's recent run look like a small feat.

Why, oh why, can we not just enjoy the current team and coaching staff and live in the moment?
Why is everyone already worrying about Cam leaving when he has coached just one game?
It's like we just can't be happy. We HAVE to be worried about some future catastrophe.....

as happy as i am for the last game, and the offensive improvements that seemed to have happened. it is just that, one game. slow down.
to entertain your thought, coaches at this level have one thing working against them, arrogance. most think they that they are head coaches to be. Some are simply not cut out for head coaching. some are better coordinators. Chavis has this figured out. Time will tell if cam has this figured out, or not.

I don't think games against UAB, Kent State, and an atrocious Auburn team are going to reveal anything that this game didn't. Hell, Georgia's defense was laughable when trying to contain Bohd & Co.
But, take away the dropped passes on the 20+ yard low-percentage plays, and tell me the last time we looked THAT efficient as an offense.

not to be a debbie downer but we almost gave that game away. it was a 3 pointer with about 6 minutes left in the game. our offense fumbled the ball and gave them a freebie td. our offense missed a sure td pass that hit the wr smack in both hands. our offense fought their way to te red zone on 4 occasions and had to settle for 3 fgs. i'm only pointing out that while there are tons of positives to take away from the game, there are some greatly affected our efficiency. yes, we SHOULD be able fix those things and be efficient enough to win the west and that is a much better situation than in the recent past. i think CC will be the difference maker.

"The school announced Wednesday that Cam Cameron will receive a three-year, $3.4 million salary package. He is set to make $600,000 in 2013, $1.3 million in 2014 and $1.5 million in 2015"(not sure how to post a link)
This kind of money won't keep him around if he truly has aspirations of being a college/NFL head coach, but what a gig...geesh

Offense was not COMPLETE in 2011. Sorry.
I was more worried about Cam leaving when we first hired him. Then there was talk here about his age and situations etc and I felt like we might have him for the long haul.
And it isn't just one game, that has me happy. Did you see the route scheme the WR's were running. If nothing else the DB's will have a MUCH harder time knowing before the snap what route the WR is going to run.

Agreed. But the original poster stated (in his second post) that it was not "competent". That's just plain wrong, and you could look it up. Only against Alabama (twice) did the offense fail to score in double digits, and only once fewer than 20. The team averaged 41 points a game in games against opponents not named Alabama. The original poster also stated that half of those points were scored by the defense or special teams. The blatant misrepresentations of how effective that team's offense was do a disservice to the entire team.

1) It's early to anoint this guy our offensive savior. Mett did look better, esp under pressure. But play calling was iffy (lots of running up the middle on 1st down, just like always.)
2) I have no idea, but I would doubt money is the factor in CC leaving/staying.

Just my opinion, but those runs up the middle on 1st downs will generate a lot more yards in future games. Teams are going to look at the film from the TCU game and realize that we CAN beat you downfield this year.
