I agree with a lot your points OP. The secondary is lacking difference makers but the unit is underachieving beyond just that. You have to question the coaching on that side of the ball when you have poor tackling effort, lack of QB pressure, etc...

Edited because I hit submit accidentally
quote:

Last year their offense was above average with great defense.

2022 Offense Georgia YPG #5 @ 502.9 yds PPG #4 @ 41.6 pts

quote:

But the year before that was average offense great defense.

2021 Offense Georgia YPG #24 @ 439.9 yds PPG #8 @ 37.4 pts

I'd say 2 years ago wasn't actually average but above average as well.

It’s like you had ChatGPT scour the scoreboard and rant for the past 6 weeks and posted it. Where have you been?

Welcome to Labor Day. I bet the market suuucks in September. In a few weeks we’re going to lose a heart wrencher to Ole Miss. $100?

Last year they started off with a lot of mistakes in the secondary, but by mid-season they were a somewhat competent secondary and we won the SEC West with that group. The same coaches were there now, but the personnel has changed drastically.

The DL played reasonably well last year, but have been awful this year. We lost the DL coach from last year, and lost his replacement right before the season.

To me the secondary is a personnel issue, we got some serviceable transfers last year, but this year's group has been a problem. We have lost the guy from Ohio State, Chestnut, and essentially Denver Harris because he can't screw his head on. Now the decision to go with these guys is on the coaching staff, but this far in the season they have very few options.

The DL has serviceable talent but they have not been coached properly. The addition of Pete Jenkins actually showed some positive signs against Missouri and hopefully will get better next week.

Bottom line we have to recruit more decent players and need to retain them for four years. That is still on the coaches.

Just not going to win many games when defense is giving up 40 points.

Bad defense problem is you likely won't be able to possess the ball last in enough games during the season to even make said championship.

Buklshit, 2019 defense was
Decent but not great.

Game has changed, gtf over yourself.

You sound like the typical dsld Ascension Parish subdivision armchair qb.

2019 offense probably wins the natty with this year's defense. Nobody was going to outscore that offense.

Agree with most of your comments, though.

You know finishing 5th in total offense is better than above average right?

LOL, are there really people who are just now figuring out that we have a bad defense?

just by observation alone, this appears to be one of the slowest defenses LSU has had in years. Glad to see Womack and Swinson being used. The secondary must be being taught to stay as close as you can and strip when back turned. Maybe they are not fast enough to stay close and turn head? Just plain horrible defense. Horrible tackling and angles taken on simple smash mouth runs by our opponets. Not sure what the heck #15 is doing on many plays.
