Does he still have only 7 strike outs?
Yes, that's what Rollins said tonight anyway. The numbers that Raph has put up at the plate this year are just insane

Don't see how that has much to do with the hits/average record.
you don't see how a hotter bat would help your batting average/number of hits?

It would be interesting to see where Rhymes stacks up OPS wise against the LSU all time greats.
Just for shits and giggles, but I'm not looking that stuff up.
Raph Rhymes is on another planet.
Ill give you a few:
Rhymes 2012 - 1.149
Eddy Furniss 1998 - 1.443
Brandon Larson 1997 - 1.295
Todd Walker 1994 - 1.018
Brad Cresse 2000 - 1.285
hard to compare eras because slugging was inflated so much in the gorilla ball era

shows what a basic, sound approach to hitting can do vs. an over-taught swing that many kids are brought up with these days...IMHO of course...

Aluminum bat=harder hit balls=more hits...
Don't see how that is hard to see.

That's incredible considering Rhymes doesn't hit for power.

Odds are when the dude steps up to the plate, he's going to put the ball in play.
Yeah it is insane to think about how often he gets a hit. Almost averaging 2 hits per game he plays.

Everyone keeps waiting for Rhymes to cool off and to be honest I did, too.
But since the beanball series at Florida that Rhymes came out of with a concussion and an average of .466, he's raised his average nearly 40 points against some damned good pitching.
Pretty impressive to say the least.

Brandon Larson 1997: 110 for 289 in 69 games - record for hits
Raph Rhymes 2012: 74 for 147 in 39 games
Russ Johnson 1994: .410 (96 for 234 in 66 games - record for avg)
LSU should have AT LEAST 22 games remaining in the season. 13 regular season games + 3 SEC tournament games + 3 regional games + 3 super regional games.
Using a projected 3.75 at bats/game he should have around 82 at bats left (more if the Tigers advance to the World Series).
He needs 37 hits to eclipse the Larson season record of 110. 37 for 82 or an average of .451 for the remainder of the season gets him there.
So getting that record is still going to take a hell of an effort, no injuries or missed games and a little luck but it is now within reach, especially if the Tigers end up in Omaha.

There are 13 regular season games left, plus the SEC and NCAA tournament games.
8 for 12 against Kentucky
3 for 4 so far against UGA
This cat is batting .531 in SEC play

Good stuff, it is likely he breaks the avg record at this point, and with each week it seems likely he gets to 100 hits

Being a life-long baseball fan(I'm in my 50s)it seemed proposterous to me to type that a player competing in the SEC 'only' had to average .451 over 22 games to break a seasons hit record. Then I looked at Rhymes' performance since he missed the three games after Florida threw at and beaned him.
9 games, 21 for 33, .636 BA and an even more impressive 17 for 26,.654 in the 7 games vs SEC competition.
It ain't out of the question that he gets to 111 hits and the LSU season BA record is pretty much a gone pecan already.
P.S. It's also funny to go back and read some of the early comments on this thread made a month or so ago.
According to some of our board baseball 'experts' Rhymes didn't much of a shot at .410

Can someone explain what ESPN2 was talking about against UGA Sunday with the record being .574 or something?
Did that guy just not have a lot of ABs, so it's not the official record or what?
