An interesting twist to this story is that Gottfried and Johnny Jones are good friends. Jones worked for Gottfried at Alabama. The following is a tweet from Gottfried when Johnny was hired:

quote:

"So happy for my former asst Johnny Jones who is new coach @LSUbasketball. Phenomenal coach and friend. Could not have made a better hire."

Good. I thought he was mediocre at best on a talent-less team.
Good luck to him in his future endeavors.

To the experienced eye it doesn't take but a game or two (actually a quarter or two) of watching a player in a game to know what kind of player he is or what kind of coach is coaching him or both.
That's why I condemned TJ very early on and got blasted on this board for doing so.

Still amazed how most people watch 2 game a year and shite on players. There's maybe 20 people on this whole board that went to or watched every game but ones who.didn't support are first to shite on players

I only went to 4 games this season but I watched every single one on GZ except Coastal Carolina because it wasn't on the video.

I still think Ralston Turner shouldn't be allowed back on the team.

Clearly you need to get to the games live. This squad needs all the players they can get to pitch in. We can't be losing players with experience at this point.

Saying you can judge a player in "a quarter or two" is idiotic.

turner won several games for the tigers last season, and they wouldn't have even been able to sniff the ncaa like they did without him. Yes, he was inconsistent on offense and had a weak defensive game, but he was a key member of this team, one of the few experienced players we had. Anybody that doesn't see this as a loss is hitting the pipe too hard.

But who wants a player that doesn't know what he wants? What good is experience if no one respects you?

If he comes back, as a former player, I look at him as a guy who didn't care enough for his brothers to stick it out and get there together. Not cut loose and go cherry picking with other teams.

And you dont need to go to a game live to know that leaders don't go shopping two years in, they set an example and LEAD! This isn't the NBA.

Besides...

Freshmen Year - 12.1PPG, 2.6 RPG, 1.6 APG
Soph Year - 9.1PPG, 3 RPG, 1.6 APG

He also only scored double digits 13 times last year out of the 33 games, that is mediocre stuff.

You must have missed my prior post... I agreed completely if the kid isn't a tiger let him go. I'm saying the fact it escalated to this point is a blow. We will survive and right the ship, but in no way can this be spun as positive.

Which one's? I'll give you Marquette but I'm coming up pretty empty after that.

NIT #6 seeds don't sniff the NCAA's.

He was the 6th leading scorer on the team in SEC play. Storm averaged 10 less minutes a game but outscored him. Think about that. How awful is it that a guy who's main asset is scoring gets outscored by a hustle player off the bench?

Of the 4 or 5 games I watched it seemed like all he did was catch the ball 3 ft behind the arc and look to pass.

What is the back story here? His move doesn't make sense to me.

JJ is bringing in a handful of talented wings, which means serious competition for minutes.

I'm sure that has something to do with it, but he wasn't happy here under Trent. There were rumors that he was leaving after the season was over, and the press release verified that. Ralston admitted to discussing a transfer with Trent.

He seems a very moody, unhappy person.

Did you feel the same way about Justin Hamilton and all the other guys who transferred to LSU?

Turner wasn't happy under Trent and is going through a coaching change as well. It should be expecting that some guys will look around when their teams haven't been successful and a new coach is brought in.

He was also one of our top offensive players the past 2 years. He will be missed if he does transfer, because this year's team will be very limited offensively.

Meh. Jones can actually recruit so we will have scorers this year. Id rather Turner stay. Hopefully he could turn it around this year play the 2 and be a shooter, but with who we have coming in I wont shed a tear if he goes. We will have an upgrade in talent and consistency in positions 1-3 with or without him. Just need 1 of the 2 big men currently on the radar and we will be a very very solid team IMO.

I have mixed feelings about transfer restrictions, but it has nothing to do with coaches being able to take jobs elsewhere. That's a horrible comparison. Lot's of people try to use that, but it's a lazy argument.
