It looks like O lost his team this summer. He probably had more opt outs and transfer of starters/potential starters than Bama, UGA, and UF combined. That points to lack or trust and team comraderie.

Offense looked fine to end last season to me. Not minimizing her death at all, but that's a bullshite excuse for this year. Kinda trashy to even try to play that card

I just mean that he fits the Louisiana LSU culture darn near perfect....
You can tell he loves being LSU'S HC... this year is tough on everyone around the program

Doesn’t justify this record or this poor play

How'd that work out for Les?

My brother in law told me first hand..."divorce is like a slow death in the family"
After 27 years ...4 grown daughters
Divorce is extremely painful
Family life is never the same!

I can understand this sentiment. I went through a brutal divorce with tons of custody issues 10 years ago. Work was my sanctuary. My performance got better. I’ve seen it go both ways and everyone handles it differently. To me, athletes/coaches, typically have a certain mindset to focus or at least have the support of others to help them focus. It’s a tough situation, and it’s in his best interest to fight through it.

He fits with Louisiana culture as long as he's winning. There's a lot of people unhappy with this team in 2020 and the way he seems to be more interested in young women than getting this team to play better. I realize the deck has been stacked against this year's team for many reasons, but there is no excuse for us to play this poorly, particularly against bad teams on the schedule.

For every 4 years of marriage it takes about a year to heal. Orgeron was done in a few months. That divorce was years in the making. Don’t fool yourself.

1. 14 players drafted off GOAT 2019 team
Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State all reload. That's what "championship programs" do, and O said he's building a "championship program." Why hasn't LSU reloaded? A championship program is not a one-hit wonder, but a sustained national championship contender.
2. 31 total players lost
Again, we're supposedly recruiting at an elite level. Why the drop-off? this year. Roster management is not Orgeron's strong suit because we're right back to shortages on the offensive and defensive lines like we were three years ago.
3. Chase, the #1 WR in CFB opts out
LSU has Terrace Marshall and other available talented WRs. Chase doesn't play OL
4. Shelvin and Ika opt out
Again, why isn't the "elite recruiting" paying off?
5. Brennan goes down for season...
So we go from the #1 player taken in the draft to 2 freshman...at QB.
Coach up the quarterbacks.
6. Lost Aranda...and all linebackers
Coordinators and players leave all the time. Make a good hire, recruit better and coach up the guys you have. Damone Clark was a good player last year. This year, he's not fit to play in the Sun Belt.
7. Lost passing Coordinator to NFL gig
Again, assistants leave all the time. Make a good hire.
8. The head coach is going through a divorce
Don't let your personal life affect your job. Be a professional.
9. Global pandemic has impacted 7 billion people in some fashion
All of the teams in FBS have the same problem. There are at least 50 teams better than LSU at this point.
10. We are way below 85 limit on scholarships
As are other the teams in FBS. Again, roster management is not a strong suit of Orgeron's.
11. Great class is coming in
Had great classes before this one. Where are all the linemen?
12. The sun will rise again over the Bayou...
Great. That and $3.50 will buy you a Happy Meal (maybe)
13. O is LSU... everyone should try to be encouraging and hopeful instead of being quick to lash out and express ugly frustration...it is what it is...accept the above...smile...and live your life joyfully.
I live joyfully. But a coach making $8 million a year can be held accountable for a bad season and some of it is his fault. O made bad replacement coaching hires and the supposed elite recruiting has somehow left this roster with holes in critical positions. And, unlike three years ago, he's not in his first full year as head coach. He's been here four years now. No excuse for the roster to be in this kind of shape.

———- (this is irrelevant imho)———
9. Global pandemic has impacted practice sessions with some aspects of the 20 being on ZOOM etc. (this is important concerning the re-tooled Oline)
10. Missing Stingley in game 1 - Yes...he is that good and would have made a difference.
11. The game being moved to Mizzou and missing practice time due to a hurricane hurt.
12. The BLM, Ryan Clark march. Don’t kid yourself, this was a seminal moment where the team truly lost focus on football (I get protesting, but skipping practice in order to do so while your head coach is left in the dark by team “captains” is grossly unacceptable and, at least to me, illustrates a team that was not even remotely focused on football).
In short, last year was the perfect storm for GREATNESS to be delivered. This year was the perfect storm to to see us struggle.
With the breaks- (a healthy Stingley early, not losing practice time/home game due to a hurricane, and a Brennan not being injured) I believe we are 5-2 (or even 6-1 as Brennan may have made a difference last night).
[quote]quote: Some people don’t understand what a rebuilding year is.
We weren't having one of those according to the coach though.
Did he say this before or after losing Chase and Shelvin? The timing is important. He still may have said if anyway (Coachspeak), but he may have actually believed it prior to the Ryan Clark insurrection.

You do realize that there is no roster management plan that can withstand what lsu lost in this offseason, right?
You lose 33 players (I think the number is 33-34, not 31) in an offseason. 20 who are in or going to the nfl.
Another 4 that were scheduled to start, who may or may not be pro players
I mean, you do realize a recruiting class is capped off at 25, right?
How do you out-recruit an attrition rate like that? Much less expect to have just as good of players step in & not miss a beat?
Oh yea, there was no offseason either. And you lost both coordinators. Good luck!
