For those that are like me and have lost faith in Miles but had had it before, what will it take?

Take a cold analytical approach to evaluation of Coach Miles. Throw out emotion.

He's been the HC for, what, five years at LSU? How many years at Ok St? That's more than enough time to establish a "coaching character", would you agree?

OK. We agree.

Now then, let's take a look at Saturday night, given the fact that our man has had more than five years to establish his "coaching character."

Evaluate performance in light of objective criteria. Note that the Miss Meltdown was not a unique incident.

The equation reveals that the subject lacks critical skills and attributes possessed by the very best examples that we have seen and known.

Conclusion: The best interests of the LSU football program are best served now by the relief of Coach Miles from his duties.

Alternative solution: Give the subject yet more time to evolve into the model desired. In my opinion, the alternative solution is driven by emotion and not cold analysis, given the fact that the subject has had more than five years to develop himself into the desired head coach model.

Direct answer to your question. I disagree with the premise of the question in that I disagree that the subject should be given more time to evolve into the desired HC model.

I still say LSU has trouble finding a new OC next year with the current fiasco. If LM loses to FL and Bama and OM again, then he's probably done. Who will want to come here for a possible 1 year gig????

And dont feed me that "they can be the savior" or "they have so much talent to work with" crap. Anybody worth their salt knows that an OC only controls so much. And since he is under the microscope, LM will surely be providing more input to the O, which is apparently the only thing he has any experience with. Plus the O-line will be worse.

So, would you walk into a situation where you could get fired in less than 1 year, your boss will be a micro-manager, and you've got to replace an all SEC left tackle, the top 2 RBs, the top receiver, and a 3 yr starter at guard? I know I wouldnt.

Next season is shaping up as a wasted year.

I agree. This is a factor in my conclusion that it is in the best interests of the LSU football program now to relieve Coach Miles of his duties.

I love the guy, and I would cry and hug him after I gave him the verdict, but, the verdict would be unalterable and effective immediately.

not having a player like trindon in motion during the wild tiger. Also, letting RS throw. There's just really no excuse. This is a young man that actively recruited kids to lsu. He enrolled early to help the team. You simply won't let him. You hired crowton. Buck stops with you

When I see the above! PLEASE put trindon in motion and hand the damn ball off to shep!!!

Honestly, right now - NOTHING.

BUT, if forced to respond more positively, this:

1. Short-term: a DECISIVE win Saturday & in the Bowl;
2. Mid-Term: fire Crowton, hire someone of Chavis's credibility on offense, & get our O-Line in shape FAST;
3. Next season: win the SEC West convincingly with a settled offense, compete for SEC Championship.

.much of what happened was simply inexcusable for even a reasonably paid high school coach, let alone a Top 5-10 paid coach in college football.

This is what ive been thinking but couldnt put into words

What I need to see from this coaching staff is a clear indication that Les Miles is in total command of the team. I NEVER EVER EVER want to hear anything remotely like, "Well...I would have preferred it if we ran right there." Are you shitting me?!? That's stuff FANS SAY, not the guy who can over ride every call in real time!! I want to see the team look like it's managed well, in terms of getting plays in crisply without needing to call To's on multiple occasions because no one can make a decision on what to run. Finally I'd like to see LSU's offense stick with what works until it doesn't.

very well put

Damn...

When I posted this, I half way expected it to get some smart arse response and slide down the board or turn into some bash Miles thread where everything already said was rehashed again and again.

Kudos to everyone who has posted...I agree with most of it.

In the end, I want LSU to succeed. I'm 39 years old, and for the majority of my LSU following days, I watched LSU be slightly better than a mediocre program...though much of that time I didn't even know it. I'd wait in the mid 80's for my Sports Illustrated to come so I could see if/where LSU was ranked in the Top 20...and be giddy if they were ON THE LIST!!! And as happy as I was in January of 2004 when LSU won it's first NC in nearly 50 years (I cried...happy?) it raised the bar in terms of expectations. I couldn't go back to naievely smiling about being a top 20 program. What's more, as fans we have been asked to invest in the program financially to make sure we DON'T go back to those days...so it's not just irrational expectations of fans that drive fan desire for continued elite play. When we are asked to donate more and more, and pay larger and larger ticket prices, it is always done so with the backdrop being championships.

And because I truly like Les Miles, I'd be exstatic if he could pull a rabbit out from under his friggin hat and become the sideline leader he really has never been while here and allay my fears about the program. I really do. But if he can't, LSU is simply too big to allow itself to fall back into the wasteland... Programs with FAR more resources and FAR more tradition have fallen off the map and have either not returned or have taken decades to do so. There is nothing so special about LSU that she too could not see the same fate as a Notre Dame, or an SC from the 80's & 90's, or a BAMA for the late 90's up until 2007... After tasting this high level of success, I have no interest in going 20+ years while we dig ourselves out of some bad decisions...

This is as fine of and timely of a thread as I have ever read on the Rant.

I agree with most of the thoughts and sentiments expressed here.

Would love to Les get his act together as HC, i.e,. give his team an identity, cast a vision of excellence and dominance, and put teams on the field week-end and week-out that are manifestly ready to kick some tail.
