re: Shep playing time

I agree! Why do some people insist that Shep couldn't comprehend the game plan? The guy came into the program earlier than all other freshman, and seems pretty intelligent. High School teams run triple options ALL THE TIME. Why would Shep not be able to pick up plays and learn a few good plays every week and build on it throughout the season? G
One thing that LSU needed last season was a spark in the offense, and the coaches had it sitting on the bench, or brought him in and ran the same 2 plays all year. Hell, the best play of Shep’s season was an I formation hand off off-tackle that he took to the house against Auburn, and I don't remember Crouton ever going back to that play again.
Bottom line is this team underachieved in 2009, and Shep was a small part of that picture. The offensive play calling was not designed around the type of players that were on this team, the players were asked to conform to Crouton’s game plan.

the truth is rearing its ugly head since the luck (and discipline) began to run out, and the entire nation (except for the seriously delusional) can see Les Miles for what he is - a very highly paid, mediocre coach.

MsGulf... I don't think very many people would spend this much time on this site in discussion about a football team, unless they were passionate about Tiger Football. I agree LSU does have some over biased, obnoxious fans that do make other fan bases judge our fan base as a whole. But it is apparent that throughout the season LSU does indeed have some issues in the coaching department. This is not JUST based on the end of the Ole Miss game, but it was magnified!
The writing has been on the wall for some of us all along. However, it is ok to have differing view and opinion of this teams direction and circumstance, but I hardly believe that anyone, that is an LSU fan, posting comments on this site was pulling for LSU to lose last night.
Losing only hurts the programs and from what I have read on tigerrant, LSU has an extremely loyal fan base that is also knowledgeable about the game of football (some more than others.)
I feel there is a difference between criticizing a poorly coached team and people wishing and hoping for hard times to fall upon this program. 9 and 3 is a good season, but we could have easily been 10 and 2 or even 11 and 1! This is just mine and a few others on this sites opinion. That’s all, an opinion!!!

That's fine. But the chances of a team being successful with utilizing mostly misdirection and playaction relative to those that run the ball up the middle are not great.
One more thing Chilge, do you understand that a team can run a misdirection play and run the ball up the middle of the field at the same time?
Chilge, you got it sport! Have a great day, I'm done going in circles here, I'm getting dizzy!!!

As for the misdirection argument, I think we really should use it a couple times a game,
This is all I'm saying chilge!
I'm not trying to make Shep the starting QB or say that we make misdirection the bases of our offensive play calling, but just to put a guy in motion every once in a while and give the Defense something to think about!?
You know chilge, my point also supports your hang up with inexperienced O line. Misdirection and play action plays freeze defenses, thus slowing them down so the o line can complete their assignments!?
ANd I'mm sorry for callin you a dumbass,,,

gimmicks
Chilge you are a dumbass! This does not have to be ALL that the offense is based on!
We have 6"3" plus taller receivers! Are you kidding me???
ANd Misdirrection is not a gimmick play, turn on the tv and watch any game that is on you television and you'll see every team that is successful using playaction and misdirrection! :banghead:
It's called motioning to get match ups that best suite your players! Sounds simple because it is! Crowton needs to go!!!

We have 2 seniors?

Misdirection, Play Action, and the Option are not the plays on which we base our offense.
The option is run by LSU's offense a lot,,, Where have you been??? And most of the time it is a wasted play because Crowton does not set it up very well. And JJ is not looking to run the ball!!!
AND,,, I know misdirection and play action are not plays on which our offense is based on, BUT if we would run them with the speed of Trindon and Shep and Lafell, it would spread the defense out thus giving room for Ridley (CS, KW) to run straight up the middle. See Ole Miss and McCluster!!! LSU could do this and be GREAT at it!!!
I've said this so many times, but once again; If we were to bring Lafell (or Shep, or Trindon) in motion, and fake the ball to them and hand it off off-tackle to Ridley, we would be as successful as all the other teams in College and Pro football have been in doing so. Plus the wrinkles off of this play would be to pitch the ball to Lafell (trindon or shep) and then even pitch and let shep throw the ball. Or fake to all the running backs and let JJ hit TT or Dickenson on a CROSSING patern!
Next you will say, "how do you know shep can pass, don't you think coaches know better..." Blah, Blah,,, Shep CAN throw the ball, and when you design and set up a play like this, one does not have to be the best passer to complete a big play! Which is what LSU need to beat Bama and Florida, but like the Ole Miss game – LSU did not even try.
The comment about the inexperienced O Line is just a copout!!!
NO, because he had very experienced running backs and should have been explosive this season with running the ball, which would have opened up the passing game more. Yet Crowton has failed all season at doing this! If he can’t get it right with the talent that the tigers had his year, what makes people think ANYTHING will change next year???
Where was the “wild tiger” this year that was talked about so much in the offseason?
Zero misdirection, very little play action, and when LSU runs the option play, every person in the stadium and watching on tv knows it is coming... The dude is not very innovative and lacks ingenuity!
I think he needs to go!!!

In spite of coaching! Dead on!!! I’m sorry if the fans don't see this then those fans are oblivious!
When are we going to see misdirection with Trindon or Shep in motion!? EVERY team runs this play and it works!!!
But in spite of poor play calling, the tigers pulled out a win! Congrats to the players!!!
On defense I was happy to see LSU putting pressure on their wangster arse QB! It is what won the game for the tigers!

I would not want Nutt here in BR. He is always a bride’s maid and never a bride - He will never win it all!
That will be interesting to see,,, do the refs want Darling Nicky or Timmy Tebow repping the SEC???
We shall see next week! It's hard to believe that the sec would not want little Timmy representing the conference in the BCS championship game. Just saying,,,

re: Can you really feel great about Ole Miss losing to State?
Posted by GeauxChil on 11/28/09 at 2:19 pm to TexasTigah
who cares! Go Bulldawgs!!!
The rule was put in place to protect the QBs and that was obviously an illegal hit! The ref behind the play that was looking at it even winced when JJ got hit?! It should have defiantly gotten called!
What sucks is LSU had about 3 or 4 chances to do the same to Bama's QB and played did not take the shot. But I can't complain since our players played within the rules of the game???

I saw a block in the back on the last drive yesterday by bama, right in front of the ref. Again, NO CALL!?
I still think that Bama's player took a cheap shot that knocked our QB out of that game and that was the big difference in the game!
I would like to see Bama's QB take a hit like that from Spikes, please!!!
