I watched LSU beat Alabama last night in Gymnastics. I know Football is LSU money maker. Now this is my question, It was a sell out last night and the LSU Gymnastics team has been on the SEC Network for the past 3 weeks. Is Gymnastics in the Black as the Baseball team? All the rest of the LSU teams are in the Red.

Not even close. Like $1-2m loss each year.

Edit: it’s also worth noting that LSU Basketball still turned a $2m profit in Johnny Jones’s worst year - better than baseball.

Gymnastics is a major money loser for LSUAD. The Advocate reported last Spring that we lost over $2 million on Gymnastics.

Think about it: the things that make $$$ for SEC teams (and LSU) are TV contracts, tradition fund type fees, and ticket sales. Gymnastics makes very little revenue from any of those things. Note: Gym tickets are cheap.

Also, gymnastics is one of the most expensive non-big3 sports to fund.

It hurts that there is only like 6 home meets

LSU makes solid money on meets but not enough meets to cover all of it

DD has won 2 SEC titles in 40+ years. Let's don't go overboard.

Nobody's going "overboard"

Oregeron is steering the ship into many down years. DD has her program at the top of the rankings with no sign of slowing down.

Years ago, LSU gymnastics gave away tons of free passes to almost every home meet. Is that still the case?

Gymnastics is a growing sport.

Give it a few more years and the tv deals will pay off if you have a legit program, like lsu does

They were scalping tickets in front of the PMAC last night...

I'm going with no, that's not still the case.

The name is Orgeron.

I'm not a big supporter of his but when I do discuss him in print, I at least have the decency to spell his name correctly.

Don’t Gymnastics ticket only cost about $3.00 ? A sold out PMAC would only generate about $30-40,000. Even with concessions, that sin’t much.? Add to that, travel expenses, etc and it’s easy to see a $2mil deficit every year.
Still proud of them, though. Seeing dem little gals jumping all over da place is fun !!!

Adult tix are $8.00 and youth tix are $3.00. Figure one adult per 2 kids. Thats about $63,000 in tickests.

Lets conservatively figure $10 concessions per fan. Thats another $140,000.

Each meet probably generates around $200,000. Not bad.

Thats over a million dollars for a 6 meet home season . Assume they get dome TV revenue.

The program generates a lot of positive publicity. You never hear of some of the issues which occur in other sports.

so many people just assume the better the sport is the better it’s margins are. Basketball also rakes when it comes to TV money and it’s only behind football. It has nothing to do with how good the product is when comparing the two sports because of the inherent nature of how college basketball and baseball are funded and operate.

Just because you don’t hear about it, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. It may take a few years . We didn’t know about the Olympic teams until we did.
