I just read on Dandydon that Jamar Chase is the highest drafted WR in LSU history followed by OBJ at 12th overall.

I immediately thought about Josh Reed and then saw that he was drafted in the 2nd round. Does anyone remember why? I was only about 10 or 11 when he played at LSU but what I do remember was that he was an absolute freak of nature. Why did he fall so late in the draft?

He was converted RB to WR. Very successful in college but not that fast. Never did much in NFL.

Reed was kind of small compared to receivers back then. Smaller speedsters like OBJ, Landry, Stefan Diggs weren’t really coveted until about ten years ago.

Reed would have feasted in the slot in today's NFL

He's like 5'8". The guy was one of my top-5 all-time favorite LSU players but he wasn't and isn't what an NFL scout looks for in a WR by pretty much any measure.

Yeah maybe so. I guess the game has changed a good bit since then.

The Bills i think only had 1 winning season all those years. Lee Evans had some good years.

Reed has a solid rookie season, to my memory. But yeah Lee Evans ended up being quite a bit better.

His speed was a bigger deterrent than size I think. If you're going to be short, you can still make it big in the league, but you gotta be fast.

He was an all time college player though. Guy just got open.

He played 8 years in the nfl and had like 20 QBs

He could have been great in the right situation.

Wes Chandler was the 3rd player picked in 1978 as a 6'0" speedster.

I’ll never forget 2001 team. Reed just seemed to be open EVERY play. It was amazing......

His biggest gift was the push off. He could do it without getting flagged better than anyone I have ever seen.

Josh was about 5’10” and 205 and ran a high 4.5 forty. Just googled it and found an article about running a 4.47 at pro day but said the last time he ran it, he ran a 4.6. He was great at sticking his foot in the ground and making the first guy miss, but wasn’t a home run hitter.

Once he got to the NFL, the speed caught up to him, so he wasn’t as successful. Also, looking back on his highlights, he caught a ton of balls within 10 yds of the LOS and got 15-20 yards out of those plays. Not near as much press man coverage was played back then and he feasted off 5 yd hitches and bubble screens with Michael Clayton blocking for him.

Loved watching him and Rohan.

Was short and not very fast. He was good in space and would probably do better in today's NFL than the time he was in the league.

he ran a 4.47 so it's not like he was slow.
