This is true Robbytiger. But its the consensus way to win in this league. Thats why you have to have your home state develop at least 1 every 2 years at least or youre scrambling looking for a hidden gem all over the country.
Its amazing that the state cant produce 1 guy every other year. Its a problem for any coach coming to LSU.
Maybe changing to a Big XII "sling it around style" will win in this league but thats a big overhaul and a big chance.

If I was a top QB coming out of high school, I certainty wouldn't go to Tiger town!
Or Alabama, Ole Miss, UF, Vandy, SC, A&M, etc.
Miles set LSU back with QB development, the jury is still out on whether Ensminger can.

It appears Etling developed from a cast off to a drafted QB.
You do realize the Patriots traded their future away to S.F. at the behest of Brady and against the wishes of Belichek, reportedly. DE is likely the most non-threatening QB they could sign. He is at this point a pure backup and nothing more, whereas, Garropolo was always considered much more.

I have never considered DE a starting NFL QB, but the point is he was let go by Purdue, he came to LSU, he played in the SEC, he got some coaching and got drafted.
Who cares about NE politics?

Fine, I have no issue with giving Canada some credit. LSU hired the guy, what credit does LSU get?

Go re watch the Clemson win over Bama.....
There is a reason why Clemson started making big plays in the fourth...
Go see how much time Watson had to throw the ball vs the the first half....
Clemson’s O line was man handling Bama’s DL....there weren’t many plays where that Allen kid was swimming his way into backfield anymore....he was getting handled....
This is something a lot of people don't understand unfortunately. Quarterback recruiting and development has been really bad but same can be said about the offensive line to a lesser degree.
You can't have success passing when any defense with a pulse can get to your QB unmolested because pressure disrupts timing between the passer and his receivers.
Systems can mask certain flaws against weaker teams but it usually never fails that teams with the best guys in the trenches are the ones hoisting trophies at the end. It's why a lot of these wide open Big XII and PAC 12 offenses with less talented big guys struggle against physical SEC teams.

QB development at LSU lol that’s too funny

Maybe because he wasn't involved in coaching the quarterbacks.
Which is his point. You suck arse at developing QBs, so if you had this great QB developer already on staff, why not make him the QB coach? Have the WR and OL coach split teaching the TEs.
Jason Campbell had a worse year his previous year the one time they allowed Ensminger to coach him at Auburn. The year after they had him step down, Campbell had his best year, and it made him a first round pick. Steve hasn't coached a QB at the college ranks since then.
Dude is a below average QB coach. A position that we need the best guy at.

The QB position has to be like any other on the team similar to a defensive lineman or WR. A coach has to put complete trust into the QB position and every QB on the roster. He has to run a offense that keeps the opposing team off balance and regardless who is behind center, run a offense that is not predictable.
Coach to win with a high productive offense instead of coaching to not lose a game because of a turnover.

2008 - 30.1 passes a game
Sijnce '03, LSU has thrown 30+/gm in '07 and '08. 2 times. It's not just a Miles thing.

are they developing these guys or is it recruiting the wrong types of guys
QB development takes time and continuity. 3rd OC in as many years and the rate at which our QBs the last 5-7 years have transferred out is more than your normal modern FBS attrition. If guys are highly ranked coming out of HS they are not sitting for 3-4 years. We need to sign atleast one if not two a year, and hopefully the staff after this year can single in on what the will look for in a QB recruit, because right now we have 3 vastly different QBs with little to no experience and our offense is as meh as ever has been.

I mean Steve E. was a Qb but does he have a good record of tutoring Qb's?
Just in looking briefly, he has had success at major stops developing QBs.
AT UGA in 91 QB Eric Zeier threw for 55% for 1900 yards and 7TD.
In 1993 after 3 years under Ensminger same QB Zeier threw for 63% 3500 Yards and 24 TDs.
At Louisiana Tech in 3 years the offense and QBs all improved.
At A&M the offense under E struggled and actually regressed in 3 years.
At Clemson in his two years the offense regressed.
All of that was over 20 years ago though so take it for what its worth.

There is no development, period.

2008 - 30.1 passes a game
2012 - 27.4 passes a game
2013 - 25.1 passes a game
I've said the something for years till I'm blue in the face!
What's really bad is not only did we have NFL caliber QB, RB with NFL/Pro-Bowl WR's but one of the worst Defenses in a long time where we constantly was forced to throw because we were behind!

I think a good first start at developing a QB might be to get yourself an O line that can actually pass block....get that, and you’d be amazed at how good a QB can look when he’s not running for his life...
Recruit OL's that played in a passing Offense in High School. (Can't recruit Louisiana) and that can process information quickly. (Reads and Assignments)This hasn't been done at LSU in the last 5 years.
Not Rocket Science; want to have a great passing offense, then recruit OL's out of HS that already know how to pass block.....

Only constant I can see for lack of QB development is Ensminger. He has been here quite awhile and is now your OC. Good luck with that. I don't know how anyone had optimism to see this offense get better this season with basically a freshman QB starting if Brennan wins. Be happy if this team can rake past 7 wins this season.
Steve E definitely helped coach QBs at this program. I don't know where the hell any of you are getting that from. Whether or not he held the QB coach title he most definitely has been involved in their development. He's mostly just helped the other coaches but regardless, it's not like he's acclaimed in his past with a great history of spitting out great NFL QBs. It's not going to get better under him. It really was a terrible hire to make him OC.
