I'll pit any of our Lou Tepper defenses against any college offense there ever was.

2007 offense - Always put up lots of points, unlike 2006
2011 defense - Played a considerably harder schedule than 2003 team
2010 special teams - PP and JJ

2003 defense
2011 special teams
2013 offense

Even better, break down the various parts of some teams, like the '97 running attack paired with the 2007 Oline and 2013 passing game. Pretty damn devastating right there.

I watched the 03 and 07 national title games on SEC network this weekend and the 07 team might have been better than the 03 team. The 03 offense was not very good and I hate to say it, I don't think it would have beat USC that year. The 07 team was more complete although I would give a slight edge to the 03 defense.

Then again the 11 defense blew both out the water.

Even our nickel back on the 2003 defense played in NFL for years
The nickel back on the '11 squad was a Heisman finalist . . . and is still playing in the NFL.

The '03 team had better defensive statistics (as I recall), but the '11 defense was nearly as smothering plus a more devastating weapon. And the '03 squad didn't have to face three offenses that put up over 40 points in bowl games (115 in two BCS bowls, Oregon & West Virginia).

It's splitting hairs, though. Both were among the greatest in college football history, and either one would easily win a National Championship paired with any of our all-time great offenses ('13, '07, etc.).

Ummmm. There was another team that was equally dominating.

Look at the schedules that year. We played Oregon and a very strong offense in WV with Geno and gang. The fact that our stats were in the same ballpark as Bama's cakewalk schedule, is PHENOMENAL. Our D was better no doubt. They had a larger, slower D.

2006 offense gets nod over 2013 because of depth at QB.
1959 gets nod over 2011 because they only gave up 50 pts all season, 21 of those in a meaningless exhibition after the prize had been won...and they only gave up 52 in the previous season. That's consistency. I know, different times. But still.
