Good question, baw. I doubt its CEH with him likely handing at least half the load at RB.

Saw this as well. It would make sense because Giles is taking Chark's WR spot. Giles is probably just as good of a runner if not better.

Chark was a very good punt returner.

#2 in SEC and #17 Nationally in return average. Had 2 TDs this year, which was #1 in SEC and tied for #2 Nationally (and had a couple called back).

I don't think people realized how effective he was back there.

ETA:

I see you said "runner" and not "returner". Misread, but I'll leave up those stats.

Definitely a good point about Chark. Honestly, I don't expect Giles to return for TD's like Chark could. Hell, he might be able to, but that's a bit much speculation for me.

I can only compare Giles to Chark to what I've seen. Video shows that Giles is good at catching and very fast. Chark may have better awareness or something that makes a better returner in general.

Whoever it is lets hope they don't let punts hit and roll an extra 20 yards like Chark did.

I wouldn't say Chark was a very good punt returner. Yes he had 2 for a td and one called back. Other than those 2 for a td, he was pretty awful.

Auburn 75yds td, Chatt 65yds td

187-75-65=50

50 yds spread over 14 attempts= 3.57 yds a return.

That's counting the actual returns, not the ones he watched bounce to the 1.

After the Auburn game where he got his last TD, he went -2, 2, -2, 5, -4, 4 in yards per game.

He got worse as the year progressed. And again, that was just what he decided to catch.

Hopefully this year we can have better returns even if we don't break one for a td.

Just like many great punt returners, teams started kicking away from him. He got far fewer good opportunities for returns and was getting frustrated so he tried to return a few he shouldn't.

He was abysmal in the bowl game, but that was not the norm.

I think there is a big distinction between Chark as a "runner" and "returner".
Once he cleanly fielded a punt and attempted a return he was great, as your stats reflect. But often as not, he was a liability in not fielding punts and allowing them to roll. we lost a lot of field position as a result of this, which is negative yardage that should be assessed against the punt returner (I am aware the stats don't take this into account, but the lost yardage is just as real as the yardage gained on the return.)

Sadly I think a lot of that is coaching.

Serious Q: Did he ever return a kickoff past the 25 yard line?
