Our pitching staff still sucks...
How have we addressed the real problem?
Starting rotation is all back. Those three were a lot better than they showed last season due to injuries. I’m looking for a big jump out of Schmidt.

I wonder if he is going to make Ruckert & Patrick or one of the incoming freshman lose second or center field before he plugs one of the portal guys there.
Patrick is going to get plenty of opportunities to win an OF position in nonconference play. It's up to him to take. There's no clear cut CF on the current roster to keep him from it.
Ruckert being a lefty bat will platoon at 2B at a minimum. That will also give him plenty of opportunities all year to take over at 2B. You can't ask for much more than that as a returning player at LSU. If you want to play in a program that competes for championships you have to be willing to earn your job when given the opportunity. And I wouldn't be surprised to see either one of them take on a major role.

Frankly, I keep checking the sites for more pitching.
We're still looking at pitchers in the portal. Need another LHP at a minimum. I think Jay expects Paz and Ricken to take on larger roles too though. And the staff may feel good about a couple incoming freshmen
We've also set ourselves up nicely for 2028 too. Neither Hood nor Velasquez will be draft eligible next year so they have an opportunity to gain an inside track to be starters. Not sure about Paz and Ricken draft classes. I don't think Paz is eligible next year but Ricken might be

Paz nor Ricken are draft eligible next year, they both will be 20 yo.
