Previous failed ole Miss attempts to boost team

Years ago, lsu and ole miss played in Jackson. The team came on the field (seniors i believe) carried on their dad’s shoulders. Crowd went wild…ole miss got skull dragged

I went to one of those games in Jackson in the 80s. stands were 2/3 LSU

The players carried by fathers was in 1973, the year after the 1 second bert jones-Brad davis play. That was also a “revenge game”. We won 54-7, emptied the stadium.

Man I loved those games in Jackson in the 80’s. I know that time has passed, but it was fun at the time.

In the 80's I went to a "double header" game in Jackson. I think Jackson St. played someone in the day game.
The WR - I think it was Wendell Davis - for LSU had a monster game and we won something like 35 - 10 or something like that. It probably was 1987.

That had to be ages ago, I don't think they could make it work in Mississippi today.

I was a freshman in Tiger Band in 1972. I was there in Tiger Stadium for the Jones to Davis 1 second left TD and Rusty Jackson extra point to win it. The Jackson newspaper ran a headline the next day, "Ole Miss 16, LSU 10 + 7".
I was at the 1973 game in Jackson, and we killed them. The next day, the Advocate ran a headline, "Ole Miss 14, LSU 7+7+7+7+7+7+7...."

People don’t realize, but for a long time for lot of consecutive years, this game was played in Tiger Stadium. Those few years they weren’t, it was played in Jackson (which seated about 60,000) because Vaught/Hemingway was such a two-bit venue.

True story: I was the football writer for The Reveille in 1973 and wrote the 10+7+ … headline and game story. It did not run in The Advocate.
But I did get a shout out for it in the briefs section of Sports Illustrated.

Second true story: on the flight back from Jackson, Coach Charlie Mac was seated by me and then stood and called his seniors to the front. He asked for a vote to accept a bid to play Penn State in the Orange Bowl. But the bid would not be announced for two days.
Of course, the vote was unanimous.
Mac then turned and looked at me, pointing, “And I had better not see a fricking word of this in the Reveille tomorrow.” He then flashed his winning smile.
