re: Preview of 2019 offensive line

The line has shown some brief flashes this year, but has been a huge mess at times. If nothing else, the extra experienced depth will be a big boost. If Ingram does get re-instated, the O Line could make a huge step forward. Even if he doesn’t, the line should be more stable and consistent barring more crazy attrition issues.
Another big help for the line in the running game will be better backs. While I appreciate what Brosette and CEH have done this season, they are not SEC starter quality. They are depth guys, and solid ones. The freshmen we have coming in are much loser to that every down SEC starter mold, with speed and power. This will make the line’s job easier in the run game.
Pass protection...different story. The Line still has a long way to go there.

KT starts at Guard from Day 1.
Not unless he drops 30+ pounds. The kid is overweight right now whether anyone wants to admit it or not. He couldn't handle an SEC schedule or 60-70 snaps a game as is. We'll see what camp does for him. IMO unlikely.

I mena Rosenthal is prototypical but also most CFB teams don’t have an NFL LT.

Wonder if Ed Ingram will be back. If so he and Lewis would be your guards. I still don't feel Deculus and Charles are OT's. I am hoping Wire or Rosenthal will step up.

It is interesting how we should start Rosenthal and he hasn't even played a live snap in a CF game.

LT - Rosenthal
LG - Lewis
C - Cushenberry
RG - Ingram
RT - Charles
Hines, Deculus, Traore, Magee & Thomas are you’re next 5...most depth we’ve had on the o-line in a long time.

Thomas isnt beating Ingram, Lewis or Hines to start.

Either wire or dare needs to step up and take over for deculus
Well, Deculus beat out those guys, so there’s that. He is only in his second year. Here are some guys who were not good enough to play in their second year:
Debo Jones
Dee Anderson
Duke Riley
Kendall Beckwith
Matt Flynn
Deculus is a very good run blocker who needs to develop his pass blocking better. He’ll probably be much better next year. If he was at Alabama he’d be getting his first chance to play next year, like most of their linemen.

Deculus was abysmal at RT this year
Posted on 12/31/18 at 6:02 pm to deathvalleyfreak43
Dare needs to get his head on straight.

If Deculus and Chalres start at tackle we score less than 10 in Tuscay

Deculus gets abused. LSU needs a RT that won’t get steamrolled.

Just a feeling. I don't see Lewis returning for SR season.

Dare is the most athletic lineman on the team. He can play left tackle.

I agree that we will have that same starting 5. The only possible change would be Thomas overtaking Hines at LG. The big thing will be depth and early on you will see a lot of guys rotating to get reps.

Lol this board is obnoxious at times. One person says rosenthall could be an all pro left tackle now everyone starts threads about our 2019 teams with rosenthal pencilled in at left tackle.
Nevermind that no one has ever seen him play, no one has ever seen him play the position at the college level and he’d have to supplant a 2 year starter. The odds are highly stacked against it happening.
Yet when it doesn’t happen everyone is going to come here and call him a bust.

Have you seen Dare's film from high school?

LSU should consider this route more often, especially with the actual use that tight ends see in the LSU offense.

modern era where colleges look more for frame and athleticism than sheer weight and size when it comes to offensive line recruits

It's hard to project what their size is going to be, strength, how that’s going to grow and develop, but the way football is going now, the way offensive line is played, it's important to find the most athletic people you can find that are going to be big enough and strong enough to do it...and are tough enough to do it. The days of finding the biggest, fattest guy are over.
