Ace starts Game 1 of the Supers. Always. Win the first game and put pressure on other team to beat you twice.

Well just think of the pressure you put in UK to win game 1 if you know Skenes is sitting there in game 2. I am putting my self in UK’s shoes. If I have a pitcher that I feel is better than Floyd (a college pitcher this yearbetter than Skenes does not exist) then I match that person with Floyd. That is not conceding anything to LSU but simply trying to give your squad the best chance to get to CWS.

There’s a reason everyone in the thread is telling you the same thing. Winning game one is the goal in game one. Paul Skenes gives us the best chance to win game one. Ty Floyd is a good pitcher and our second best arm, but he does not give us a a better chance to win game one than Paul Skenes.

Just to be clear, everyone on the rant said Skenes should NOT have pitched against Tulane.

Just to be clear, we pitched him and it worked out perfectly.

Think of the pressures you put yourself into if Skenes is sitting on the bench, and the unnecessary stress you put on Skenes if we drop game one.

You’re just absolutely wrong here. There is no metric or rationale, other than the weather possibilities mentioned already, that supports starting anyone other that Skenes on Saturday.

There is pressure on both teams to win Game 1. UK wants to win Game 1 like LSU does. You start Skenes. Win Game 1. Hopefully Skenes can pitch deep and not many arms used. Offense wakes up and forces UK to use more than they like.

Don’t need to overthink this one. Best pitcher starts Game 1. 2nd best starts Game 2. Same with it make it to Omaha. This is big boy baseball and what they played for all season to get to this point.
