re: Predict the 3 annual rivals

Personally I can't visualize LSU and Florida not playing a game every year. It's a storied rivalry with classic games every season, not always in a positive way for one or the other team.
Just because they're 590 miles apart doesn't limit the importance of this NATURAL rivalry.

Yeah i’d prefer if there was no annual opponent

it's unnecessary with a two-year rotation, but everyone will have to go along with perm opponents, so bama can play tennessee and auburn every year.

Herm Edwards said you play to win the game. I actually think you play a game for fun and it is way more fun playing Florida and Bama than it is Missouri and Vandy, it just is. Other posters have also mentioned how fun the Auburn games were for about two decades. It was towards the end of a season and Tubberville lamented his whole team was still sore from the LSU game five weeks earlier. If at the end of this we will not get at least one of Bama, Florida or Auburn every year but get OU and Arky swapped in then we losing out in this process.

Some want to play the very best. I am one of those. It surprises me even more how fans want the easy teams.
So would you want our permanent 3 to be Bama, Texas and UGA?

Someway somehow the sec will F over LSU
bama,texas,A$M

LSU, Ole Miss, State, Arkansas
Bama, Auburn, Tennessee, Vandy
Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky
This allows all schools to play a home/home game within four years. Win for everyone.
Let’s see how they screw it up.
This looks right, but other schools will bitch at our pod being too easy.
Also:

This is just gross. Letting these Big 12 teams in sucks. They don't belong.

What I want:
Ole Miss Florida Bama
or
Auburn State Bama
What we'll get
Ole Miss Bama A&M
Ole Miss Florida Bama
or
Auburn State Bama
What we'll get
Ole Miss Bama A&M

although it sucks, we as a fanbase have to let go of the rivalry nostalgia. Those games were fun but having state and arky possibly in our pod instead of Florida or another top tier team is better in the playoff layout. It sucks but losing means more to the committee than winning now. It doesn't do as much to play the strongest strength of schedule and drop 2 compared to going undefeated or only 1 loss with an easier schedule.

TAM, OM. Not sure of a 3rd, but bama or Ark sound about right.

I thought they already set the permanent opponents when UTx and OU joined. Is this going to change those up?

Gotta be Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Alabama I'll miss the Florida game.
When they originally started looking into this when Texas and OU were announced, but before they joined, there was a formula to it. Every team that had consistently been in the top half of the conference over a period of years would play 2 other teams in the top half and 1 in the bottom.
When that was done, Ole Miss was in the bottom half of the SEC enough that they were going to be that team out of our 3. That isn’t the case today. Tennessee is in the same position, as both programs have been much better over the last 4 seasons.
So is this still going to determine the team choices? If so, there’s no way we can have all 3 of Bama, Ole Miss and A&M. One would have to be dropped, likely for State or Arkansas.
If they drop that formula and just pick teams based on relationships, then those could be the 3, but I do think LSU would push back on it in favor of one opponent not in that tier.
I would personally prefer Ole Miss, A&M and State, but I think it would end up being Arkansas. We would still play Bama every other year, so it’s not the end of the world not having them every season. Same for UF.

Bama will pick Tenn, Aub, and Vandy…
Just sayin
I agree with this. I don't see them giving bama Tenn, Auburn, and LSU. That honestly is pretty brutal.
I think LSU gets A&M, OM, Arkansas.....State could be a possibility, but none of those 3 are championship type programs, nor is State.

Upper tier had to play two other upper tier teams and one lower. Opposite scenario for the lower tier. Thus LSU’s predicted opponents were: Bama, A&M, Ole Miss Bama’s were predicted as Aub, LSU and Ten, which just happened to coincide with Ten getting good again. Saban didn’t like it.
If the last 4 seasons are added to that calculation, it likely shifts the balance to change these groupings because Ole Miss and UT have made a move up. At least that’s assuming the SEC sticks with this model.

I kind of disagree on OM. Sure, they have been spending heavy on the Portal...but I don't think they can keep that up....and they have had a tremendously easy SEC schedule this first two years of 16 teams...that will likely change. They still haven't won even a conference championship in over 60 years...they are just not a championship program. Tenn is much closer, imo.

I’m not saying they are a power program. All I’m saying is, depending on what the sample size is, Ole Miss and UT could move into the top 8 based on their records the last 4 seasons. I thinking purely from a math perspective here. If it’s a 20 year sample size, then a few seasons don’t move the needle, but if it’s smaller that could change.
There is also the question of how Texas and OU fit in. Texas has to be in the top group, but what about OU, While they are historically a great program, they were pretty mediocre in their first two SEC seasons. Will the SEC office just assume they are a top 8 program for this little scheduling exercise?

Ole Miss is definitely because of history.
Alabama is probably definite, ratings...
The next is either Arkansas or A&M, depending on their other possibilities and avaibility.
I wish it was Fla.
