I'm taken aback at how many posters here seem to be unable to see the reality of why the LSU offense struggled this year. It most certainly was not play calling.

I can't remember the number of times that I begged, to the TV, for Lesticles to call a PA pass on first down or second down. Ensminger did that over and over this year. I feel like he called games in a way to keep the defense off balance.

So why did they struggle? Because of the youth at all skill positions, and poor offensive line play. Matt Canada had 2 senior WR's in Gage and Chark. One of the best RB's ever to dawn an LSU jersey in Guice. A second year starting senior at QB in Etling. And a more experienced, better performing offensive line. I would go into detail but then this would be tldr.

I would say that Joe Burrow is a clear step above Etling, but the receivers weren't consistent, and defenses weren't afraid of Edwards H'Elaire (sp?) or Brossette. Why do you think they started running Burrow later in the season? Because they weren't generating enough rushing offense to keep defenses at home. And because Burrow got sacked a lot so running Burrow made the defenses think twice before sending an all out rush.

Not to say there weren't places for improvement in the play calling, but for the most part the play calling was good. It was the execution that was poor.

Well now you have done it. You committed two unforgivable Rant crimes.

1. You injected reason into this board.
2. You went against the lynch mob mentality.

One crime might be forgivable but never 2.
You will be mightily roasted.

You’re right, but it doesn’t fit the Rant’s narrative. You see, you can always fire a coach, but you’re stuck with the players, so let’s blame the coaches. Then we can have more optimism next year after a guy gets fired.

I was going to comment on exactly what you quoted, but your gif did the job well enough.

I HATED the playaction.. E called it too often and we didn't have the line to hold up for it.. we also rarely got much route separation any ways..

Again, HATED how many times he called PA.

You guys are great. I'm not even gonna change the spelling. If you can't see beyond that you prolly need to take another dose of your meds.

But teams didn’t respect the run, so PA that much is pointless. If anything, it puts added pressure on a weak O line and takes time away from Burrow to read the field after the snap.

So yes, poor play calling was a problem.

Throwing on first downs.

Throwing on 3rd and short. Even if not successful, it makes the defense aware that you will throw on obvious running downs.

Throwing deep. Again, even if not successful it pulls the DB's away from the LOS.

My point was that the play calling was what everyone asked for during the Miles era. LSU just didn't have the players to execute the plays efficiently.
