Basketball is becoming more and more of an offense oriented sport. Offense is fun, defense is work. I'm not surprised that the players relish offensive play.

The head coach doesn’t care about defense, why should the players?

I've been saying this all year. Without consequences the players can do what the f they want. Wade is either scared of the players or don't know what the hell he is doing. He should not be thinking.... "well, we need his offense." That don't work. It never has. Wade is not looking like a good coach at all. His inbounding plays suck. His lack of teaching/disciplining players after a mistake is non existent. His teaching or lack of disciplining a player after he stares at a shot and doesn't find a man to block out is horrible. He IS NOT WHO WE THOUGHT HE WAS! He is having a horrible year coaching.

That's a problem that the coach MUST FIX. All players relish offensive play because, like you said, defense is work. This team is lazy and so is COACH WADE. He's either scared of the players or he don't know how to coach. Neither scenerio is good.

Isnt stan van Gundy a defensive minded coach? His defense is worse then LSU's compared to the rest of the league. Sometimes it can be the players. Did wade have an assistant that taught d at vcu?

No question. Some guys/teams are better defenders than others. But it's hard to keep blaming the players when you have data over the course of 4 years of below average to downright bad defense despite MANY different players during that time period. I like Wade. But at some point you have to look at the constants during that time period. The biggest constant is Wade.

We can rack our brains up and down to figure out what is the problem but the simple answer is this is akin to a Les Miles situation. It wasn't that Les couldn't coach. It's that he refused to acknowledge his APPROACH/PHILOSOPHY regarding the offensive side of the ball was not working despite all statistical evidence and the outside world being able to see that was the case. It's the same with Wade. He fully believes his approach/philosophy works...or eventually will work, despite EVERYONE being able to see it isn't.

As good as the recruiting has been they have to get more well rounded guys in here. It’s either guys that play no defense (Watford, Cam) or guys that can’t give anything offensively (Mwani, etc).

Mwani is shooting 78% from the field. I think some of the guys you are assuming can't score aren't as much of a liability as you think.

Absolutely spot on, it drives me crazy when they try for a blindside steal, most times, like you said, it ends up in a open 3, layup/dunk. His press philosophy is garbage, you either are ultra aggressive to frustrate and overwhelm the opponent into hasty decisions and bad turnovers or don’t press. What they do now allows the entrance pass man to survey the court and with one pass beats their press. They help either too soon or too late and the help comes from the wrong side.

No, it’s about enforcement of discipline and fundamentals. You don’t just whip people on the offensive end then can’t contain that same person on the defensive end. This is about a lack of effort on one side and being allowed to get away with it by WW.
