Friday afternoon getting over the bridge from Port Allen to Baton Rouge is an hour commute, yet you only drive like 7 miles

Why are hotels outside Knoxville cheaper on game day ?

They just built about 5 new hotels just off the interstate in the Port Allen area. Availability of rooms might be the main reason the prices are lower. Plus that bridge is a bitch with traffic.

The hotels right off the interstate or either brand new or less than 10 years old. Unless there is a wreck on the bridge (not a remote possibility) getting to campus on game day generally isn't a problem. LSU is literally the first exit once you get across the river. Returning to the hotel after the game isn't a big deal either. Take river road to downtown BR and jump on I-10 West. There is usually very little Westbound interstate traffic postgame.

The only downside is that there is nothing to do around the hotel unless you like fast food, strip clubs, and/or video poker. Otherwise, I think it's a great place to simply just sleep and take showers while you're in town.

This statement is false. I live in Brusly and it takes me 15 minutes to get home once I get to my truck. The trick is knowing where to park. Park anywhere down Aster and contraflow will get you home super fast.

If you are coming from the east it is better to stay in Hammond/Covington/Mandeville. Traffic flows better on I-10E and I-12E post-game than it does heading west and you are heading towards home rather than away from it. Hour drive, maybe 90 minutes, tops.

It’s okay. Just read reviews and you’ll see. It’s a hub for lot lizards catching truck drivers off of I-10 though. That’s what I think.

There's at least one thread per day on the OT about the bridge. A wreck on the bridge, the bridge is down to one lane, traffic is at a standstill on the bridge, I could go on. But hey, you might get lucky that day and make it in time for kickoff.

Port Allen is ok. It's not particularly dangerous or anything if that's what you are worried about. Maybe a little trashy.

There's not really much to do on that side of the river and that bridge is a damn nightmare to cross during the work week which is why it's generally a less desirable area for most people.

West side is da best side bro.

Honestly traffic is going to be miserable Friday afternoon if you have to use the bridge and could be bad before/after the game. Not much going on in terms of restaurants and bars either.

There's a great club that stays open until like 5 in the morning on Sunday and Port Allen It's called vibes don't be scared of all the big rims in the parking lot and lined up down the service road on Highway 1

Personally, I'd look in Denham Springs or somewhere in Prarieville also. This is assuming that all hotels in BR are sold out. You'll be a little further from LSU but it won't take you any longer to get there.

You'll also be an easier drive to some decent restaurants, bars etc. Just don't stay in Dolandsonville in AP.

I'd also check Airbnb. You might be able find something closer to campus.

Why? Even with zero traffic you are at least 20-25 minutes away from campus. On Saturdays from PA it's generally easy to get across the bridge to LSU. Even if traffic is somewhat heavy all you have to do is get in the right lane until you get to the Nicholson/LSU exit. Plus, those hotels sit on Westport Drive, which allows you to go the back way to the La. 1 on-ramp if I-10 is heavy at the Lobdell exit.

Friday the bridge traffic will be heavy. But no moreso than 10/12 West. And again, all you have to do it get over the bridge, then you can exit off on to surface streets to get around BR. Postgame traffic westbound is minimal once you get on the interstate.

If you're looking to party/eat/hangout around the hotel before/after the game, then PA is not your place. But if you're looking to just sleep at the hotel, then it's a cheaper relatively hassle free alternative

Not true. It's all in where you park for the game. I generally park north of the stadium around the natatorium area. I live about an hour and a half west of BR and it literally takes me maybe 2 hours to get home from a game, and that includes the walking time to my vehicle. Just have to know where to be and how to navigate some of the neighborhood streets to get out the quickest.

I cross the Mississippi from the west and the I-10 bridge is
a nightmare on gameday and any day really. There are only 2 bridges across the Mississippi in a city the size of BR. I take the Airline/Huey Long bridge because it's quicker. Don't go down Nicholson Dr. to get to the stadium either. I get off at Acadian.

Whatever you do, don't get frustrated. Enjoy!

Worth it if the price is that much better. Not much different from some areas in BR.

I was mostly thinking that there isn't really anything to do in PA and the bridge is always a wildcard. I wasn't telling him not to stay there, just giving some other options if BR is booked.

There are multiple ways to get to P'ville (although I'm not sure how many hotels they have) and Denham which has 4-5 hotels right by the interstate.

None of them would be ideal unless OP is just looking for a place to sleep. If so, they'd all be fine.
