Then what was the issue with our D wrecking Bama for 50 minutes?

They did not look like a 5 star line with 0-0 score. They were not able to run at will up the middle until one or 2 first downs by Bo that were well designed plays having the QB as a threat to run.

LSU needs to reassess their strength and conditioning program. Especially for their O/L. I know it's Bama and all but dang......

when u recruit a bunch of guards to maul for a run first concept u get what we have

Which would be fine except our run first guards aren't really good when playing equal or better talent.

When was the last time LSU had a truly dominant tackle?

I'm not talking about a guy like Collins who was clearly an NFL quality G with a bit of versatility.

I'm talking about a guy like Tunsil (who actually has played well at both G and T this year as a rookie).

We move Guards to Tackle whereas the trend in the NFL is to move Tackles to Guard. We do the opposite of what a pass oriented team would do.

This post assumes that Tackles are as abundant as guards when it comes to recruiting. LSU would love to have more tackles, but they are at a premium. That's why NFL teams draft blindside tackles with top 5 picks.

This entire post is idiotic. It doesn't matter that Collins was moved to guard in the NFL. He was a dominant tackle at the college level.

IDGAF what position our tackles play in the NFL, as long as they're good at LSU is all that matters to me.

We missed one from our home state who was dressed as a gump and may have smoked a little to celebrate the win. Can't miss out on guys like that.

We had Whitworth and Will Arnold. Both were projected to go in the first round.

No, it really doesn't assume that at all. Thanks for creating an argument for me though.

Which is why they end up playing center.

And yes, that was kind of the point that went over your head. See the word recruiting in the thread title. Having them leave the state is just back breaking.

Yea, that's the entire point.

Yea, you clearly didn't comprehend what I posted. I never said that Collins wasn't a great LT in college. He was pretty damn good and that versatility is incredibly valuable. His one weakness was that while he could dominant the man in front of him in run situations, he struggled when finding defenders at the 2nd level. Whereas from the Guard position, he's an absolutely elite athlete that is in a much better position to showcase his talent.

Let me make it easier for you:

I'm talking about a top NFL tackle prospect who will stay there in the NFL. Nothing to do with how Collins played at LSU, as he was great. It has to do with also wanting athletic guards who can get out in front. Collins translates into a pretty good guard in the NFL (although he was struggling this season). I pray that one day we can run screen passes better than we have this year (still having nightmares about the Wisconsin game ). I'll take a Collins 10/10 times in pass protection.

Cool. No reason for you to have responded to me then.

Coach O is right.

If we get a better O-line coach and offensive coordinator, we will snag some of the 5 star offensive linemen. There just aren't that many out there. You have to be able to develop the plentiful 4 star athletes like we see on the defensive side of the ball this year.

This.. U don't recruit a catcher to play SS. They have done ok for guards trying to play tackle. A good D like bama & Wisconsin exposed that weakness. Not on the players it's on coaches recruiting hands down
