I'd say we don't catch the longball, well, but that would be embarrassing to the shortballs.

You guys are morons if you think les was going to unleash the secret passing play book against auburn. We are saving for bama.

I'd just like to see us throw the ball in space a little more.
These comeback routes and sideline throws are fine but they generally lead to very little yards after catch.
That's where RS and OBJr are best IMO

We didn't air it out in two games because Les doesn't like running up the score to 70 points a game. In one of the other games Mett almost died so we didn't air it out in an attempt to save Mett. life. It worked. In the last game we didn't air it out more because Les thought it was probably better to win the game than work on fixes for the offensive line... better to work on that problem after the victory.

We also need to start screening teams like crazy on Josh D's side.

Excellent though Gfunk! Slow those pass rushers.....wish the tigers could take a page out of the saints book when it came to the screen game.

We need to throw more. Even with our stable of backs, we're not gonna run for 180+ against the better teams. We need to keep the defense honest.

no. keep balance and get tight ends into the game more...but run it.

That would be a great idea if our tight ends could actually CATCH the ball

You realize there was about 30 called passes vs AU, right?

I think our run/pass ratio is pretty good considering we are a running team. I'd like to see us throw more on first down and some other second and short Situations. We seem to do most of our throwing in obvious passing situations. Also, as someone else said, our passing game would appear much stronger if we didn't drop 3-4 passes a game.

Idk if we should be throwing so much slants considering we are a power running team. You're never going to get space if all you do is throw and run into the LBs. They already crowd the box so why not get a few 15yd intermediate routes set up, but then that's a problem because Mett already doesn't have enough time. Fix what's ailing the OL, start Boone, and teach the wrs to catch first and do everything else second. IMO it's much harder to do play action this year than last because the protection is all messed up. Also you take away option in the pass game(spread the coverage out) by having so many stay in to block on obvious passing plays.

it's hard to say we have a great bunch of running backs, yet we must pass i say a balanced attack and do what works with the defenses we are presented with.

Anyone simply saying we need to start chunking it deep more is an idiot.

We have to throw it deep when the opportunity presents itself, and we need to capatilize off of that when we do. We take about 5-8 deep shots a game, which is plenty. Our receivers have to start A) gaining separation on deep routes and B) making plays. As an opposing DC, I wouldn't hesitate to roll my safeties to a 1 high look simply for the fact that my corners can take away the deep ball on the outside, because our WR's pose Lil threat.

The number of passes isn't the problem. It's the type of passes we're not using enough of, or at all. Screen/dump-off passes to RB's, especially from where the pressure is coming from, like other posters have said. Short crossing routes, too. Quick slants. I've seen all these mentioned in this thread.

What I don't understand is when we have, say 3rd and 3 or 4 and instead of an RB screen, quick slant, short crossing route, we throw deep to a man heavily covered or pinned against the sideline. Just take what the d is giving up underneath the coverage and move the chains.

That is whatI would do. Never mind those little small, slow, shitty running backs y'all have I would just start chunking the ball. I actually can't believe your not a D-1 coach. Start slinging it baby!
