"We were really shorthanded tonight with our lineup as well as with our relief corps,” coach Paul Mainieri said. “So that was unbelievable that we got through the game and we were almost able to pull off a win without having our guys."

Does he really think that we should need everyone normally in the starting lineup to beat S Alabama? And our two best relievers!
Geez!!

He isn't going anywhere unless he is fired. If he quits and he loses money on his contract then he won't care about baseball passing him up. He'll hang around till Alleva has to fire him. But Alleva will let this season run out and make the decision. Anything could happen like win a game in a regional.

This may be one of the most unbelievable statements I've ever heard a coach say. Normally they would say something like" our younger guys need to step up" or something similar. I think Mainieri has checked out and is planning to leave. Time will tell.

He's in year 1 of a new 8 year contract. A contract that significantly increased his pay. He's not going anywhere. In fact, because of the contract he probably has the most job security of any coach at LSU at the moment.

I wonder if Auburn was fielding a team full of subs whenever they got beat 14-3 by the Jags, or if Mississippi State did the same when they were downed 5-2.

Edit: I initially misunderstood the point you were making. But my point still stands, and am I in no way pleased with the midweek losses nor unconcerned with the team.

Why were we short handed? It's not like the guys who didn't start couldn't have and he used damn near the entire pitching staff except for our weekend starters and Newman.

I don't get the quote at all. All of them are LSU players. Our starting nine all have a ton of experience and start weekends. So we used Strall, Kiel, Frederick... how is that any different from other midweek games? But now it's an excuse and they aren't "our guys"? Come on.

Move him to office position and go get someone that has a little fire and hunger about coaching baseball. LSU's mid week guys should be enough to handle these teams they are losing to all this year. By the way all position players were starters and didnt score crap after the 3 rd inning. It is not all on the pitching. What a joke.

Is he serious? There's no crying in baseball!! You coach the team YOU recruited. These are LSU baseball players, as in a consistent top 5 class of players EVERY year!! Now, I could argue that CPM tried to recruit small ball players instead of gorilla ball players but he recruited the players he wanted. CPM please stop throwing these kids under the bus for your inability to coach! When I see someone making these excuses it sounds like Les and Johnny all over again. Bottom line, you don't get paid this kind of $$$$ to cry about being short handed. Good Lord, South Alabama was playing a top ranked team ON THE ROAD and won. I'm out of patience for coaching excuses anymore. Man up and own your decisions coaches!!

Since Paul doesn't feel appreciated anymore at LSU maybe he can throw his hat in the ring for the Stanford job with Marquess retiring or the Miami job when Morris retires after 2018 season.
