Little Manuel threw 106 pitches for Texas Southern, I think he is done for the regional .... they may not have the arm depth to win it all.

Thats the thing. If we have to go to monday, Romero could throw for us and it wouldnt matter.

nobody has the pitching depth to win against our bats on monday of it comes to that

My prediction: LSU beats SLU tonight, narrowly, and SLU tomorrow night comfortably. Lange pitches 7 2/3 tonight and Walker pitches 6 2/3 on Sunday night. Neither Gilbert nor Poche will be needed.

That's the piece of information that gets left out of these rotation discussions in a tourney format. LSU might be pitching it's "weaker" arm, but the opponent just might be pitching it's "weakest" arm. It's about matchups (and a whole lot of other factors).

Besides, based on Walker's job in the SECT finale, pitching with that control, that many strikes, in a big game, until something changes he is considered "a solid starter". Just can't go on short rest (freshman) I assume.

When is the last time Bain got any innings? Assuming he was struggling last few times he pitched

Bain has phenomenal "stuff." Problem is he can't control it. He's the kind of pitcher you either know after one batter if he's got it that day or not, or you start him and hope he figures it out after an inning or two and pray that the damage in that inning or two is limited enough that he can give you 3 or 4 more and has kept the game close enough that we can win.

I HOPE you're right, but our midweek pitchers have been crap all season. If it comes down to one of them on the mound for us, we're going to need 8+ runs to win, most likely.

We've really turned this season around over the past month, but still, we went 1-1 in that stretch when it wasn't the SEC pitchers going for us. I'm a bit worried about what happens when we get deeper into the tourney.

Winning today will be essential.

You have to factor in though that whoever we play on Monday will be in a similar situation pitching-depth wise as well. It all evens out.

what you really mean to say is LSU's weakest arms > other teams' weakest arms...

In the regional and if/when we are in Omaha, we HAVE to start 2-0 to be in good shape. If we get an early loss, we'll be using up our 3rd weekend pitcher to get out of the elimination game, and that will mean HUGE trouble... we'd have to then beat someone good, twice in a row, with either our midweek guys, or maybe our first pitcher on very short rest.
We MIGHT steal one of those games, but I don't think we can win two.

I understand that most of the midweek games, the opposing team probably threw one of their aces against our scrubs, but the fact remains that we haven't been impressive at all once we get to that part of the rotation.

I have little concern in a 3 game series, our SEC starters should take 2 of three. But again, if we get into a spot where it's Bain or Hess against another team's weekend guy, we're in big trouble.

Lange will throw a complete game today. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it.
Just like we were supposed to dominate Texas Southern out the gate.
