And that’s why he said he doesn’t mind going after guys like this… but also several players we are targeting in the portal are in the same mold and it’s going to be a sight to see here if we are losing games because we are walking 10 batters a night.

Again, these guys are worth going after, but you definitely need balance. That’s common sense.

Yep. With TJ it's almost always the year after the first year back of competitive action before everything is in sync again. This dude will be a nice catch.

If they can coach him up he'll be an asset. If not ??

If not, he’s no worse than anything else we have. 96 with a 4 pitch mix is a take…all day every. The kid is a freshman coming off TJ. They can teach him to pitch. He could turn into a Gausman type guy for us.

It doesn’t appear to be a max effort 95 either.

Correct that second full year after TJ is when guys get back to normal. Velocity is usually pre-surgery within 10-12 months but control is always the last thing to come back.

Speaking of power arms where’s our great closer we had a few years ago name escapes me at the moment that CPM had no pitchers, moved him to starter and took all his closing thunder excitement away?
Remember Z N where’s he?

Hell yeah, who needs studs like Ranaudo and Gausman when you can mold a project like this kid. Makes it much more rewarding.

Or how about acknowledging it’s just the transfer portal and the staff trying to fill holes the best they can right now.

This roster needs pitchers. They’re trying to find some guys from what’s currently available.

No need to be so negative.

Agree. Also sounded like coach Kelly was big in getting him here - that makes me feel good about our chances with pitching prospects in the future!

Because I just saw a video from a few weeks ago of him consistently throwing 94-96 mph.

Congrats, I guess

Love the story. Kid is pumped. I just hope he stays healthy. He rushed back from TJ and took a little while to get things figured out. I seriously doubt he's had great coaching and rehab, so he's advanced in talent but practically a blank canvas otherwise. He should be a pretty good test case for our development on the pitching front.
