it works about as well as any running play whenever we run it.

Posters on this site that bitch about play calling and wanting to have new creative plays, don't know cfb. Cfb teams don't have a huge, thick play book. Cfb players don't have the time to learn a lot of new plays from week to week. Being able to execute the small play book they do have is what's key. I dont think most of the posters on here realize that if you execute properly, any play cab be successful.

The Saints used to run it with Ricky Williams all the time.

I was taking a shower, so I didn't see it live. I saw this thread, rewound the dvr, and watched your play.

Holy cow! It was not the toss G that LSU runs. The play before for Green Bay was a toss sweep. The next play was a set up to look similar, but it was a designed cutback. Watch the fullback. He started right, then cut back to the left. The ball carrier followed him. This is not the same design as LSU.

Other teams run it. Just another thing people bitch about. Hill took a couple to the house.

My kid's Freshman team ran the pitch dive about 20 times last night for an average gain of 1-2 yards. They just kept doing it over and over again. I said damn is Les calling the plays :-) And then with 7 seconds left in the half from their OWN 1 yard line they ran it again.... and fumbled the pitch. We lucked out and got it back on the 1 but damn!

And why don't you think running from this formation worked in the first half? Are you one of those that think we didn't use the 3-WR set until the second half? Did us running power football throughout the night do anything to soften up their front? What happens if you throw out all your power plays and go with all mis-direction and finesse plays...does a team lose their identity?

What are you saying?

That spread tendencies can also be successful?

Or that throwing the ball can open up running lanes?

That's pretty innovative

What I am saying is that I believe that the Toss G or toss lead does not work AS WELL as some of our other running plays. I am not saying it does not always work, because some times it does. I think it is a play that needs to stay in the playbook, but does not need to be one of the more prominent plays that we run. I also think that Les knows this. IMO this is why he has been recruiting more of a dual threat QB so he can come at them with zone read and other plays where the QB is a running threat. In this day and age of college football these plays are just more effective. Its a numbers thing.

We ran the toss g or toss lead in the Iowa game alot, but we did not run it as much in the Wisconsin game, relatively speaking. I think the coaching staff is awesome and i think they will do what is best for the team, and in 2014 it is running more plays that get your athletes in space.

As stated before, mixing it up and running a combination of both styles is important, but I think running the toss lead or toss g should be secondary because I don't think that it is as effective as other running plays we run.

P.S. I also know that this changes based on opponents, but I'm just speaking generalities.

I don't think there is a play that he didn't take to the house at some point.

I think we ran it twice for 3 total yards last week. It can work every once in a while with a back with good vision. However, when we hurry up and run it two times in a row, it seems like a waste.

There is something close to the toss dive in NCAA14 - toss weak in I-Tight. Les didn't invent it, its an old, old school running play.

But it would be nice if it wasn't the only play we run off of the quick snap...
