Says Tight ends might line up in the backfield as well!
That would be a 5 yard penalty for illegal formation, fwiw. Your "buddy" must not know the rules.

It looked like it can be a great formation. You can get a lot of power running out of it. Same as the I formation but it's a little more open.

It took Harris and 4 turnovers for this offense to officially change. It's not a true spread but its a uptempo multiple style O with pro style principles. expect to see this from here on out

Depending on whether you're referring to "tight ends" as a position on the field or as a certain set of personnel, yes or no, respectively.

I'm referring to the diagram he posted in the OP. If the backfield lines up as his diagram shows with the tight ends split out and then the tight ends move off the line into the backfield, which is how I interpreted his comment to mean, that would mean there are more than four players in the backfield which is an illegal formation.

There are no tight ends in the diagram, so when he said tight ends in the backfield he obviously meant in place of the two backs beside the QB....especially since that's exactly what they did in the game.

the diagram he posted in the OP

Shows zero people in the position of a "tight end." It does have two "split ends." It's common to refer to the people who commonly play the tight end position as "the tight ends" even when they play out of the slot, wing, split out wide, or in the backfield. That's what he was doing in the OP. He means that a player, such as Jeter, would be lined up in one of the backfield positions.
