Pretty random topic, but I was reading all of the basketball posts. Everyone knows that Maravich was one of the all time greats for LSU basketball. But some people don't realize how good he actually was. He played at a time where the 3-point line wasn't even a thing. I read an article that said that when they go back and add in the factor of the 3-point line, Maravich AVERAGED over 60 points a game!!! That is unbelievable..... That is all.... Just thought that that was a crazy stat.

I meant that as they knew he was good, but not 60 points an average game good. Sorry, i'm bad with wording things some times.

In your first three posts you show support for a helmet concept that would be the equivalent of a flatbill hat with a Shiney sticker....
Post 2 & 3 were to tell us that the greatest basketball player to play the game would have had a higher average if there was a 3 point line.....
Can't wait to see what you come up with next

It's actually a valid observation. I'm barely old enough to remember his time in the NBA, no firsthand recollection of seeing him in college. I would have been just a toddler then.
For people not old enough to remember the college game before the 3 pt line, Maravich is inconceivable. I mean, the cold stats are impressive enough, a lot of us consider Chris Jackson to be the greatest scorer we've seen play live here, and his 50+ games bring back a lot of giddy memories. I have trouble wrapping my head around someone AVERAGING a little better output than that, for three straight years.

Pete averaged about 15 ppg more than Chris Jackson.
He is the greatest college player of all time. No one comes close.
He was also one of the greatest players of all time, Thus his inclusion in the NBA HOF and the NBA top 50 of all time.
A human highlight film. Every game jaw-dropping. Revolutionized the game.

Don't take this the wrong way, but of all the places on Earth that this may not actually be known, you've picked the one place where this is absolute common knowledge. It's akin to letting everyone know how LSU came up with the nickname "Tigers" or that our colors are Royal Purple and Old Gold.

Conclusion: Most people on the forums are dicks. Sorry for being amazed by one of LSU's greats and wanting to post about it.

I saw him play at both levels, he was one of the all time greats. Pete was doing things with the ball that no one else could do or dared to do in an actual game, except maybe to Globetrotters. The long range shooting (time line was his outside range) and passing creativity set him apart and still does.

quote:The point of my bringing up Jackson as a comparison is this: yes, the Pistol averaged 15 pts more. But that was with a different scoring system, one that penalizes Pete. If you apply the same rules to both (either count all made FGs as 2, or give Pete 3 for the long-range jumpers), then Pete basically doubles Jackson's output per game, and Jackson was a phenomenal scorer. Phil Jackson was right on the money regarding his comparison of Steph Curry to Chris Jackson... and for those that remember, that was the expectation for CJ, not just his potential.
Pete averaged about 15 ppg more than Chris Jackson.
It's amazing to consider, and it's just very hard to truly understand, without having seen the guy live.
