I had he pleasure of knowing some of his immediate family. As good a writer as he was he was a better father and grandfather. And always super nice, patient and accommodating with everyone I saw approach him.

I always looked forward to his New Years Eve column, where he would make his predictions for the following year.

When Dave Dixon was actively trying to get an NFL franchise for New Orleans,
Peter Finney gave him PR advice and helped him in the promotion of pre-season games. Dave was wise to listen to Pete. The pre-season games were well attended in old Tulane Stadium and City Park Stadium. The NFL was impressed with the fan support and media attention.

Agree 100 percent. I have that book to this day, and have read it multiple times growing up. It's a big reason why I love LSU football.

RIP, Mr. Finney.

Waking up to walk down the drive way as a young man reading sports headlines on the way back up.

It's a different world today!

They don't produce sportswriters like him anymore. Very sad.

I read his columns many a day. Also remember reading McFadden Duffy for the outdoor news. Threw about 100 daily papers and 30 Sunday papers from my bicycle. Rest in peace Mr. Finney.
