That being said.... I bet Shep could step on a basketball court, a baseball diamond, a golf course, a tennis court, a bowling lane, or any other athletic facility and be pretty good.

Dude was a QB...whether he would have been good or bad..we'll never know. Maybe he was a "gamer"

4 years ago people were saying..

That being said....I bet Shep could step at WR, at RB, at FS, at Punt Returner or any other speciality position and be pretty good.

Shepard was recruited as the best athlete in the nation. He was never even close to being the best athlete on LSU's roster. I wish him well though. I'm not sure he'll get drafted, but I hope he does make it in the NFL. LSU didn't exactly prevent Shepard from winning the Heisman though.

I never understood why LSU couldn't use Shephard as a running back the way Florida used Jeff Demps. I remember Demps being quite an offensive weapon at FL. Shephard's taller than Demps by about 5 inches, so he'd have had to bulk up some. But with LSU's weight program, I don't see why that would be a problem.

I'll always wonder if another coach could have found a good way to use RS in the offense.

If he could really pass, he would have been at Texas, they would only offer him as an athlete, why, because he couldn't pass. Besides, this has not exactly been top secret at LSU. In all honesty, that kid would have been better off at a place like Oregon.

That was his senior year only. He was < 50% in his sophmore and junior seasons.

Been hearing this for a good while. I posted same thing a couple of weeks ago. RS10 should have been used as a HB.

Shep should have been a DB. Fast as hell and can't catch a cold. Shep is a great athlete, but Miles wasted him with yet another stellar talent evaluation.

Did the same thing with Trindon Holiday. Holiday in the Harvin roll would have been another tough wrinkle for defenses to deal with. Holiday should have handled the ball at least 50% more than he did. Speed is deadly. Take a look at what Sproles does. Too bad, he got Lestered, just like Shep did.

He was not a QB or receiver at college level and Stud offense had no imagination to use him creatively.

Have you seem our backfield in recent years. No need for him there. Since Shep arrived we have been stacked at RB.

Russell Shepherd is not a college QB. He is a multi purpose type player. He needed to go to a spread offense.

He deserved a few more carries considering how bad our offense was at times. I'm not saying he should have had 15 carries a game because he had his issues, but more than 0 would be appropriate.

He matched our longest rush against Bama this year at 19 and easily had our longest in the 2010 W with a 41-yard carry. So he obviously had the ability to make things happen.

I keep harping on this - 1 carry for 78 yards against Towson early in the 1st quarter and he never touched the ball again. Our leading rusher with one carry in a game where we struggled and were up one score late in the 3rd quarter...

Things like that have made NO sense and are indefensible - see J. Hill in 4th quarter of our bowl game.

You are comparing Trendon Holiday 5'5 145 to Darren Sproles or Percy H. that maybe the funniest thing I have ever read on this site. D sproles and Percy are football players T. Holiday is a tiny track guy. Wow keep stuff like this coming. LOL

Trindon's stats while at LSU were stellar
115 rushes for 776 yds. 6.7 average per carry.
Averaged 10.3 yards on 7 pass receptions.
Trindon should of been used more in the uffense. He was productive but not given many chances like Harvin.

I know he's crass but Bobby is usually correct. Hate to say it but Bobby was correct when he says he knew more ball than Les.

Counting the days when Les and Alleva are shown the door...

Just said this on WWL.

I find this hard to believe.

PS, I don't hate Shep and think he got a raw deal, just surprised on the comment, even though I am considering the source

I lived in Katy Texas when Shep was in high school just down the road from where he went to high school. I saw him in many games and never believed he would be a QB. He is a fantastic athlete but he never showed any consistent sign of being a passer. The only time he completed passes was because his receivers were wide open and they were usually ugly passes. I always believed he would have to switch to a receiver or DB. Looks like they choose the wrong switch and it should have been DB.
It is funny how so many on these boards question all the rating services and their evaluations. People realize these services are flawed. However, so many keep wanting to bring up how Shep was rated the best dual threat QB in the country and have a hard time considering that these recruiting services just got it wrong.
Shep is a great kid and I am glad he came to LSU it is a shame that he was not put at DB where he probably would have had a lot more success.

he threw a bomb to debose...can't remember much else.

That was the only completed pass he throw in the UA game. The rest of his passes were ugly. His passes did not look good in the practice sessions as well. The right decision was not to have him at QB. I think they just should have switched him to a DB instead of a WR.

Defences were scared of his running ability and would over commit to the run. His receivers would get wide open. You didn’t have to be a good passer to complete the 50%.

This. He was never inserted at QB because he was worse than the others we had.

That's right, worse than JJ, JL, ZM.... even Rivers.

Let that set in for a while rantards.

You have the right idea but the wrong players. Shep was in competition with JJ, JL, and Chris Garrett. I've watched the camp practice videos that were available in Scout. Spencer Ware throws similar passes.
