That is a good line to start with. I wouldn't be surprised to see spread be a near pickem come game time. Have to wonder if the biggest factor in the line is the 1pm start.

Not really. The point spread it meant to attract the same amount of money to be bet on each team. The spread changes as the game approaches to accomplish that as closely as possible. Vegas just wants the vig.

It has NOTHING to do with what they know about football. It has EVERYTHING to do with $$ and which way the betting man will lay his $$.

Never believe this. Vegas takes stands on every game. They just figure they will get their juice by winning 50% of the games.

And that is good news. I am liking this more every day.

Please, please make LSU the underdogs. We play better in that role.

Means nothing. The only bowl opponent not favored over lsu in the miles "error" was the golden homos (notre dame)

Vegas odds makers are in business to make money, not friends. Remember that they set a line hoping that at least half the people who bet will bet wrong. Therefore if the majority of folks who bet lay money on PSU, the Vegas crowd wants LSU to cover and with a line that small it means they would be perfectly happy for LSU to win under that scenario. If more people take LSU to cover you may see the line expand to draw in a few more suckers. Personally, I think more folks will bet on LSU to cover and you will see the line expand to about 4 or 5.

Actually we suck in the Cap One bowl historically. 1-3 and Aubie got us last time (in the middle of our horrendous 5 year stretch from 2000-04.) 13-9 I think was the final.

The line is just to get as much action on both sides of the ledget as possible (at least that's what I had always heard.)

Vegas does know more than anyone. But sometimes the intelligent football fans can see a descrepancy in the line due to having knowledge and intuition of a team they follow intensly.

2003, after looking at the head to head match-ups at each position- I decided it was an LSU lock against Oklahoma.

Miles is currently 4-0 in bowl games.

BLOW-OUT LSU wins by more than 14

We have been underdogs in the two previous non bcs bowl games under Miles as well. Miami in 2005 and GT last year. Those games turned out to be laughers. Then only reason Penn St. has the defensive stats they do this year is due to schedule. If Penn St played Alabama, Florida, and Ole Miss this year, they would have 3 losses. They are not as talented. If Miles gets the team prepared like he normally does for the bowl games, we should win.

They already make bank off the juice, completely risk-free. Why would they bet with a chance of loss?

If they bet the same on every game, they'd have to win more than 50%, on average, to come out on top with their bets.

If the bets they get from people don't equal the spread, they can just call up another casino and make a counter-bet to cover the spread.

You are wrong. Its meant to spread the betting to both teams.

The spread is meant to equalize the disparity in team quality(or at times a perceived team inequality) such that an equal amount of money is put on both teams.

Therefore LSU has been spotted 2.5 because vegas believes that is the only way to create an equal playing field for both teams in terms of betting.

Later on as the lien moves it will be because of popular demand.

Finally if you don't believe that spreads are relevant to who will win a game do a pick'em against the spread. Its brutal.

The spread is somewhat meant to even the betting but a lot of times Vegas knows a team will be bet on much more than the other so they can cheat the line in their favor by a pt or 2

Miles is currently 4-0 in bowl games.

Paterno holds more bowl victories (23) than any coach in history. He also tops the list of bowl appearances with 35.[7] He has a bowl record of 23 wins, 11 losses, and 1 tie with his latest loss in the 2009 Rose Bowl. Paterno is the only coach with the distinction of having won each of the current four major bowls—Rose, Orange, Fiesta, and Sugar—as well as the Cotton Bowl Classic, at least once. Under Paterno, Penn State has won at least three bowl games each decade since 1970.

You don't want any part of a coaching argument in bowls vs JoePa.
