All numbers from D1 baseball

Leads the nation in

OPS (.300)
K (71)
BA (.112)
SLG (.136)
OBP (.134)
WHIP (.56)
FIP (1.03)

SIERA (-.26) - I didn't think a negative here was even possible. This is an advanced stat that measures pitcher ERA on things the pitcher can control and adjusts it based on the type of ball in play, takes into account if balls hit are grounders and pop-ups vs line drives. Basically saying on things Skenes can control he has a NEGATIVE ERA.

Second in ERA at .72 behind Simon Miller for UTSA (.64)

More on SIERA from MLB.com
quote:

SIERA quantifies a pitcher's performance by trying to eliminate factors the pitcher can't control by himself. But unlike a stat such as xFIP, SIERA considers balls in play and adjusts for the type of ball in play.

For example, if a pitcher has a high xFIP but has also induced a high proportion of grounders and pop-ups instead of line drives, his SIERA will be lower than his xFIP.

The formula:
6.145 - 16.986(SO/PA) + 11.434(BB/PA) - 1.858((GB-FB-PU)/PA) + 7.653((SO/PA)^2) +/- 6.664(((GB-FB-PU)/PA)^2) + 10.130(SO/PA)((GB-FB-PU)/PA) - 5.195(BB/PA)*((GB-FB-PU)/PA)

This metric seems… interesting.

It's negative because of the bomb he'd hit per game if we had him in the lineup at DH. SIERA knows what's up.

Forget it, with numbers like that and throwing an average fastball of 99, he could make 500 million dollars possibly. No way anyone is willing to risk it while he is at LSU.

Simon Miller for UTSA has faced shittier competition and has pitched more than 4 innings once.

If he could find away to up the velo on that slider while maintaining control of it, we could be looking at Jacob deGrom lite.
