A hope he doesn’t throw 60 pitches if he’s only going 3 innings

Same, for 3 innings you'd obviously want him below 45.

Why not pull the wisdom teeth back in the fall?

Probably the same reason we did not do an appendectomy in the fall.

He’s not getting eased in because of fricking wisdom teeth

Right, this was the plan all along, as stated by Mainieri when practice first started.

The wisdom teeth thing is why he would be at 3 innings next weekend instead of 4 or 5.

really, it's not like they were going let him throw 120 pitches in his first game of the season.

Has he said the rotation for opening weekend yet? I can't imagine Hill would start on Friday if only expected to go 3-4 max.

He hasn't, as far as I've seen.

Given what Mainieri has done in the past, Marceaux or Labas would be more likely to start on opening night. With a lean toward Marceaux.

He hasn’t outright said it but he has strongly hinted at it being Hill/Marceaux/Labas.

I don’t think to start the year he cares that much about the short outings. He will get the other pitchers short outings to finish the game and they will still be available the rest of the weekend.

Yep, hill being able to go 3, has little to do with him not starting opening night

He seems to imply it here, but technically I guess not expecting him to throw more than 3 against Air Force could also be because he doesn’t expect him to throw at all that night.

quote:

To nobody’s fault, he just hasn’t been able to pitch enough innings to be able to show he can be that starting pitcher. Now he’ll just have to do it on the fly. Even having his wisdom teeth taken out has kind of set him back a little bit, so I would not expect him on opening night to pitch more than three innings against the Air Force Academy. We’re hoping that he’ll go from three innings to four innings to five innings and keep building endurance as we go along.
