Because Ben doesn't have to play D. He can play D, but no one else is playing D so Ben isn't. The whole team just wants to get out and run run run. But yet they don't want to get stops which help them run. Ben has elite and quick hands and a few times has really locked it down on D. But overall he just doesn't care about defense...or college basketball

it was pretty rare but when he'd decide to actually move his feet and get in position , it showed how good his defense can be. Typically he didn't move his feet and got destroyed though. Cery littleeffort on defense by him most of the time.

He'd fit right in with the Don Nelson coached Warriors.

i agree. if he actually gave effort on d, he'd be a force. he showed flashes of it, but you're right, no one else played regularly, so he didn't either.

ETA: and the run and gun offense is fine. the best way to do that is to defend and get turnovers, something we rarely did.

Are you saying Jones doesn't deserve this criticism?

The team could use a nice film session of the Cal coached Memphis teams.

The worst thing is that the team would play hard, and the first moment of any adversity during a game, they shut it down and they shut it down harddddd

Perfect example was in the first half, lsu was actually playing decent defense and held kentucky to a three point shot late in the shot clock. It missed and bounced all the way to the top of the key. Should have been an easy rebound for quarterman, but instead he was already near half court, looking to run. Kentucky ended up scoring on that possesion.

No, dumbass.

The media has gone way overboard with the Ben Simmons can do no wrong and the rest of the team and coaches suck articles this year though.

I love the way we guarded the first 15 minutes or so then it just fell apart.

Jones' 2-foul rule is absurd. I understand protecting victor but patterson? Who fricking cares if patterson picks up a third? We needed his hustling and scrappiness

At least Blakeney cares. Love watching that dude. TQ is such an enigma. That no-look halfcourt pass that ended up in the tenth row then he goes and makes a couple great plays which forces him into takeover mode

Yea at least that team and 1990 LSU actually made the tournament

Hopefully we win a game in the SECT and get a pleasant surprise like last year's 9 seed

Oh, and it turns out the Alabama loss was by far the worst of the Johnny Jones era. We absolutely tanked after that game. I still have no idea how we managed to lose that game, against what turns out to be a very average Alabama team that sucks shite on offense. At home when you're leading the conference.

Unacceptable. But, then again, we suck.

The fact of the matter is that when they run a play it is usually successful. They may not always make the shot, but at least they get a good look at the basket.

They just need to run a play early in the shot clock rather then just standing around.

Might as well go ahead and fire Jones and be done with him. No sense in delaying the inevitable. Does anyone really think he's going to become a great coach anytime soon? He's hopeless.
LSU has no motion on offense. No screens, plays, etc. Has anyone ever seen or heard Jones diagram or call out a play during timeout? Me either. We had one of the best big men in the country, yet we had no inside game whatsoever. They look like 5 guys playing a pickup game at the rec center on offense.

Are they, though? How in the hell do you pull in another major recruit after you've show what you do to a Ben Simmons? What could possibly be the draw for coming to play under Jones? This really worries me. We were in the spotlight and failed miserably.

It's because they just don't seem to care. Why care if they can't even care. ugh.

When effort is consistently an issue it is very frustrating. IMHO it should never be an issue. Effort should be understood. And if not there should be consequences.

When even in zone dribble penetration is allowed so easily and you get outrebounded by 18.....that's all about effort.

CJJ just can't seem to affect his players consistently. To get them to change bad habits or behavior.

Again the same comments we hear after almost every loss for four years. "We started taking bad shots early in the shot clock, we weren't communicating on defense". It's a frickin broken record.

SoS,

I feel for ya. I don't know many posters that care more about LSU basketball than you. Johnny lost me last year. I made comments as such early this year and got a PM from admins suggesting I don't post in the basketball threads. But even I never expected the total lack of desire from this team. If they've lost you, South, then they've lost everyone.
