The 2 QBS who started in the fricking National Championship game last year were underclassmen... Oh yea, and so was that 3rd one who came in and won the game.
What does this have to do with QBs improving over time?
Point: a player can’t be good this year because he wasn’t better than a not so good guy last year
Counterpoint: over the years, the best QBs are upperclassmen indicating they get better over time.
Your point: there were 2 good young QBs last year
Again do you have anything to add to the conversation or you want to just interject with points that were not being argued?

Um he clearly was referring to previous years...
Is JM the new Cheeri0 front runner for QB? Yes. Is he a young player? No.

All of those QBs you listed either started at sophomores or redshirt freshmen.
Yes thank you for restating what I said.

Was he ever a young player? Again he was clearly talking about the past.

We had a decent QB last year that everyone seems to think was awful.
Come on man. With all due respect to Danny Etling (who was a fantastic tiger, and very tough football player), his short-comings in the passing game were a huge part of our losses last year and that is undeniable.
The lack of short-range passing efficiency and inaccurate deep balls were noted big time in each of our losses (especially against State and Alabama). And its not that his stats were even "bad" it was the missing on easy routes when we needed it, or missing on deep balls that could have changed the scope of the games.

As a fan base our expectations about what we need from our QB are getting less realistic by the season.
Your not wrong about this, but Ill say again, this is the missing piece of the puzzle for a decade and it becomes more and more glaring each passing season. Can you blame tiger fans for raising their expectations for QB play?

You conveniently failed to mention (As you pumped out that sunshine) that we don't have an OL that's consistently proficient at pass blocking (Which is rather important) and the 2 DT wonders (That all the Rant 14/15 year olds are infatuated with) haven't shown consistent accuracy throwing the ball in practice/scrimmages.
I'm sure it'll all come together and gel in the big SEC games though; they'll all of a sudden become accurate with SEC DL's and LB's coming after them.
"Mister Bingle" provides the only hope for a proficient passing game, provided he can stay healthy for any length of time. He just has to put on weight/muscle over the Summer or he'll get broken in half.
BTW, who's the starting Center making all the OL calls again?

Considering Russel started games in '04, the comparison is completely invalid. McMillian has basically no playing time, let alone actually starting 1/3 of a season.

Maybe but maybe not. It’s easy to say hey pass for more TDs but that isn’t realistic. We gave up too many points against state to win. The only team to beat Bama held them to 14, and a few other teams held them to 24. Losing to Troy was a damn team effort.

Yes, I think that point was demonstrated from what you said above. We have come to blame everything on the QB or coaching staff.
Your points are fair, don’t get me wrong. It would be nice to have QB that can throw you out of any other trouble you might be having on the field, but I hose guys are super hard to come by. And very rarely do those guys go on to actually win championships.

Your point: QBs improve over time.
Well no shite, Sherlock. That really some hard-hitting analysis there.
You asked for evidence to negate your point so I pointed out the most glaring evidence that the two teams who played in the NC, who happen to also play in our conference, led there teams with underclassmen. So it wouldn't be some foreign anomaly if Brennan or McMillan stepped up last year and were successful.
Also, 4 of the top 10 in QBR last year were underclassmen.
#2 Khalil Tate
#5 McKenzie Milton
#6 Jake Fromm
#7 Jalen Hurts
Adding to the Conversation.

Well your point is even less valid because your argument is that Mcmillan cannot be considered a young player 1-2 years ago because he is no longer a young player.
He perhaps had a poor comparison, you have a counterpoint that makes no sense.

I love the blind optimism by some of y'all. I will believe the passing game has improved when I see it. There is absolutely nothing that indicates we will have a better passing attack or better offense this year.

From what I have read in this thread, that point isn’t exactly obvious so I tried to make it.

Again with the straw man. The discussion (and thread topic) pertains to next year. I am not attempting to explain why those guys didn’t start last year. I am simply saying that you cannot use them not starting last year as evidence that they will not perform well next year.

#10 Danny etling. From your link.
Just wow. So you still think he was a lousy QB?

I wasn't much of an Etling fan, but he did protect the ball and was fairly consistent. Not consistently great mind you, but consistent none the less. Compare that To Myles who has very good passes and many times great darts, but then will just up and throw it straight to the defense.
I feel like whoever can prove consistency will be the starter. Not sure yet how that works until around the 5th game in the season though. Also assuming the team will even be ready to play when the season starts. Last year they were anything but ready mentally and physically. Lesson learned? Outlook looks bleak.

100% Yes. I still think, despite his QBR, that his play is one of the reasons we lost 4 games last year.
Posted on 4/25/18 at 11:41 am to phonyscandals
and in related news, I will be a year older this year.

This is why I think we should roll with Brennan. We need one of these QBs to get significant experience to actually have a chance get better. I like his upside, so he's the guy I take. Changing QB styles every years is a recipe for disaster.

If this is true then why didn’t JM start over Etling? Every time I refresh this board it’s another poster trying to convince himself that we are ok at QB
Etling was coming off a year of starting and deserved to start in his Senior year (his play wasn't that bad). Coach O played MB to burn his redshirt. Since he had 2 QB's in the same class he played MB is some mop up duty, JM's redshirt season had already been used so there was no need to play him unless Etling got hurt.
