With LF getting big runs and not being contacted until the 2nd level. Was this due to the o-line playing better or the passing game preventing the defense from putting 8-9 in the box. Or a combination of both?

Having a competent QB does wonders for the offense. The Ole Miss D completely bit on the Chark TD and they tended to be much more conservative after that. Harris would have over thrown Chark by 20 yards

They can't sell out on the run anymore.

I have been in the camp of the pass opening up running lanes. I think our play recently proves that. But I also think the line is playing better. But is that also a result of defenses not being able to sell out on the run?

It's unbelievable what happens when you hit your checks downs , get TEs involved , and consistently pick up 1st downs . Ripe for the taking .

And opened up some great running lanes. With the changes my excitement for the games has returned! Now just sucks we have to wait two weeks before the next game.

It is so good to see an exciting LSU team playing like the LSU of old. It had gotten so bad last couple of years...

I think it's both. Also, Ole Miss lined up poorly on defense. On a couple of those runs they were just outnumbered over there.

I'm guessing that when their safety came up their two linebackers should have shifted to the left. I read that our coaches noticed that on film study of Ole Miss.

You can bet Bama will be loading the box the entire game. Going to be much lower scoring.

Bama's strength is their front 7. They shouldn't have to load the box but if they do I think DE has the confidence to make the throws. If we burn them a couple of times then it should open up some running lanes. Jackson being out should help.

Honestly, the 3 long TD runs all came with 8 guys in the box. 2 of the 3 were out of the I-formation and the other was with double TEs and a single-back look. The reason they were busted for long runs is because the defense was all around the LOS and beating one guy basically gets you into the open field. In other words, those runs likely happen regardless of the passing game and scheme. They were actually very Miles-like. Ole Miss was 100% playing the run there and just got whipped by a better individual effort from Fournette and a decent job by the OL.

However, a few of his other runs came from different looks and he still had great success outside of the big 3 plays. The passing game helped there.

Don't be an idiot. Harris can make all the deep throws that Etling makes and then some. If we're going to knock Harris, let's not do it on the one thing that he did better than Etling.

I'm really hoping Etling doesn't take some early hits and get rattled ala Jarret Lee

Those Bama players can lay some licks
