I can imagine a pretty good team if only Mainieri was just the 3rd best coach on the roster.
You don't think he's only the 3rd best coach on the staff now?

I was done with PM several years ago due to this kind of mentality. These interviews just further my opinions.
If we win 7straight NC's good, but I'll still think PM is a c*nt

wonder how Poche will feel when he reads that. That was an unneccasary comment that does nothing but single out one player for not being good enough.
Bingo.

What is Poche's W-L record?

Wasn't it like 10-3 with a 3-3.5 era? Pretty damn good.

Not sure why that matters in anything I've said. He's a good pitcher, but he's not dominant. What we've seen is you absolutely have to have a ROTATION of dominant guys to win now.

in 10 starts in SEC play, he was 3-1 with a 3.65 ERA and a .275 oppBA. Austin Bain, in SEC play, started 4 games (11 total appearances), was 1-2 with a 3.18 ERA and .205 oppBA

So why didn't Bain start game 3 in Omaha?
Eta: Nvm, I forget PM thinks the only way to beat a lefty heavy lineup is to pitch LHP's

You don't have to throw hard to be dominant in today's game.
Posted on 6/26/15 at 3:16 pm to thunderbird1100
He's also a sophomore who could easily develop into a dominant pitcher. There's been plenty in that mold to dominate all levels of baseball. Who should PM have been pitching instead of Poché all this year?

Where did I say you HAVE to throw hard?
I said he's not a dominant pitcher, that's it.

So Paul, if you have TWO all American pitchers, you may win two games in Omaha. Ok, got it.

I dont know why you're asking me this. I simply stated what he said is true, as blunt as it is to say to the media. Poche had his fair share of starts where he simply got knocked around.. We started Poche where he did because he was the next best thing we had after Lange. Pretty obvious.

Why does he feel the media deserves to know his opinion that Poche sucks? Detractors are just pointing out there's some things you just don't say regardless if it's true or not.
Defend it all you want. Of course it may be correct, but how many top flight pitchers will choose to play for a guy who throws them under the bus when times get tough when they have offers from other comparable programs?

I also like how he put all the responsibility on someone stepping up. shite I don't know, why don't you develop one of the dozen arms you got.
Dunn gets a pass here, but he shouldn't

He didnt say Poche sucks, he said we need someone dominant behind Lange and Poche isnt that. I'm not saying it's not a dick move but at the same time it's 100% true. He even said with Poche as a 3rd starter with 2 dominant guys it'd be a great staff.

I understand your point. You're correct. I'm just saying he can make his points without trashing kids like he enjoys doing. I would prefer to have him take some of them blame for not having the ability to win in Omaha rather than lay blame on anyone else he can.

It is what it is. We can sit here and blame PM for throwing another guy under the bus and not recruiting to back up what he says he needs to win.
Meanwhile he can sit there and say 2 of our 3 best pitchers bowed out before the season ever started and we still made it to Omaha and won a game "so what do you want me to say?"
He is who is and will always be blunt and use specifics. I rarely disagree with any point he makes, he just makes it in pretty in your face ways.
