Theoretically, a 17 year old could be sent off to war within a year. A football game shouldn’t be a problem. Think about all of the things you did as a 17 year old. Use common sense, be safe, don’t drink and drive.

I didn't get my DL until I was 17. (Late 70s).
Dad wouldn't let me drive to corner alone.

I did something similar as a senior in high school. Learned to never drink a four-loko again. Learned from my mistake and never had one again!

Sounds like a good kid, but I'd get him a room somewhere and let them shuttle or Uber to the game and then back to the hotel. Safer, more fun, and less stressfull for you and them.

I mean I went to college at 18 and had some friends that were a year ahead and went @ 17. Also the arky game is usually a day game so there’s not as much time to get completely wasted. It will probably be fine as long as they don’t drive home drunk. As a parent of young kids I’m not looking forward to this at all and I feel your pain.

Let him cook. Wear a disguise and secretly surveillance him and his chums throughout the game.

So, what have you decided? They going?

My son (17 in December) is wanting to go to the Arky game this year with JUST him and another couple of friends, all of whom are juniors in HS. He is very responsible and capable of managing his life, makes good grades, never in trouble, plays sports, has a job, etc, BUT gameday is an entirely different beast and we live an hour away from BTR.
As parents would you allow him to go without an adult, just him and a couple friends? My first instinct is absolutely not, but I just want to confirm I’m not being overly cautious. They would drive there day of and be back that night. No tailgating.
Suggestion- why don't you come with him and his friends and find a tailgate to hang out at. Everyone could get fed, watch football all day and then they could go to the game while you hang out at the tailgate watching the game? They could leave the tailgate a little early to go see the band and Mike. You would then drive them home and they would still have had a great experience.

Just an hour away and Arkansas. My daughter is 17 and I’d let her go because she’s responsible like your son is.

Get a grip DAD, you’re treating a working adult/ soon to be college kid like a damn tweener. He wants to drink, he WANTS to chase girls, and he wants to cheer on the Tigahs. DEAL WITH IT

If this is in fact a day game, I would 100% let them go by themselves. There is very little tailgating or drinking at day games. The biggest problem with day games is that, due to the lack of tailgating, everyone tries to arrive at the same time and traffic is horrendous.
Day game would be good test run for a night game later. Honestly, I would try to convince them to go to one of the out-of-conference night games.

I did the same thing at 17. It was memorable.
If you are willing to accept that he may be introduced to a good time, but manage it well, I say go for it. Don't expect him to be straight as a board.
I would be worried if your kid is irresponsible, which it does not appear so,
Let him live, learn, and grow. My dad raised me that way and I always thought about my actions crossing the line.
