Makes 3.8 base plus incentives..I say 4.5 million.. Worth every penny for the #1 rated active coach winning % and 5th all time SEC games coached ahead of the Messiah at Alabama....

He actually should have received a raise and an extension last year. I'd like to see it high of 4.5, perhaps 4.7 or 4.8, base, with incentives for SEC-CG, BCS Bowl and BCS championships pushing that to as high as 5 1/2 or 6 million. Les is 59, so I'd also like to see it at 6 years. At this level of generosity, I'd also like to see Les' buyout to be around $500k for every year he doesn't fulfill - that ought to do it.

He lost any shot at a raise for the foreseeable future on 1-9-12, IMO.

He makes enough money for an average SEC team this season. 6 of the 14 teams won at least 10 games this year.

You motherf*ckers are crazy - this isn't about Ws and Ls (at least not directly) - this is about $$$. The football team made $80 million dollars in 2007 and is approaching $100 million now - football revenue at LSU represents 14% of ALL revenue. Ya'll don't want to pay the HC (winningest of all time at our school) - 6% of the football take? 6%?

Good luck trying to lure Saban back with $3.8 million - you guys ever heard of the expression "Penny wise, pound foolish"? You should look into that.

Honestly, I'd rather go ahead and offer Saban $10 million/year rather than pay Miles more than 5. but, that's just me.

I really like college football, but to pay any coach 3, 4 or 5 million a year is just hard for me to understand/justify. Tickets were available for all games except Alabama below face value. Cost of an education continues to go up and the chance of getting a job making enough to pay for the education going down. TAF, touchdown club, was a great idea, but the overhead is going up every year and I wonder how you justify the cost.
Winning is great but at what point do you say enough is enough.

maybe an entire career? If you can't see that Saban is the best coach in college football, you are blind.

He works under a contract. He apparently didn't earn a raise under the terms of that agreement he signed. Right? Les is what, 58 or 59 years old. He knows this may be his last rodeo and he's going for the bucks. He also knows that several teams in the SEC are now his equal, some slightly better, and the chances of a NC are becoming slimmer as his career winds down. Can't blame him I guess but it shows where his heart is.

LSU Football donates money to the University every year for academic spending. If they, or TAF, want to spend $20 million/year on a coach, it still has zero affect on the University as a whole, financially.

Grab your briefcase and get to walking. You're 8 minutes late to your Biology lecture you're supposed to be giving.

His performance on 1-9-12 and this year does not say number 1 coach.

WE DIDN'T FIRE SABAN TO HIRE MILES - Saban quit. Then he quit on his "dream" to be an NFL coach. Miles passed on the opportunity to coach at Michigan.

If 1-9-2012 had gone differently, would there be serious consideration of letting Miles go to Arkansas? Really?

1 football game.

Giving Les Miles more money won't make him a better football coach. He needs LSU just as much as LSU needs him.
