If UGA gets the same push that Auburn got, Gurley goes for 175 and 3 TDs.

So Gurley goes wild?

I'm concerned about our defense. We got manhandled in the trenches sat... Especially in 2nd half.

Anxious to see how D as a whole will respond.

he thing is though the DTs have played pretty well. Freak isn't making many plays because he's almost always doubled up.

Not being a dick but I'm tired of reading this. Freak was not doubled much in the Auburn game. I have rematched it. freak just had a bad night and was getting pushed around. Maybe there is something to his arm injury but in this game he was mostly controlled by the auburn guard or center. He got pushed back 3 to 4 yards many times.

He has gotten some doubles in the earlier games.

Bottom line is the whole defense needs to get better. Welter is average but it is what it is.

Barrow can't play a read option to save his life. Every play on one TD drive was towards him being the option man and he looked bad so expect to see that more.

Dline just needs to play better and DBS need to cover tighter and run support with better angles and we have a chance to win games.

I'm not ready to write them off but they do need to improve to beat everybody.

I also think Hunter should replace Rasco.

I agree. Looked good out there and is athletic.

I'm more worried about passes to RB's out of backfield. Chavis has yet to make this adjustment. McCarron loves to dump off to his RB's. It's how he beat LSU last season. And Murray is effective throwin this pass as well. I've watched RB's for the teams they have played so for this season get open with relative ease.

I saw 58 getting abused on more than one occasion Saturday.
I'm talking 5-6 yards blasted off Los.

58 for auburn?

If so then freak got him a time or two, but mostly he was controlled by one blocker and was getting pushed. I don't think freak is bad just had a bad game and does not warrant all the hype he gets.

He and ego need to enforce the line of scrimmage and get push and the lb need to attack the line of scrimmage with more ferocity then they are now.

Guys are also right this has been a vanilla showing by the defense every game so far also so there is a ton of room to grow. I think we will be ok because the offense will score points this year.

Well he might see that against TAMU & Ole Piss but not that many times with Aaron Murray. The defense should not have to worry about that too much if any at all.

Anthony Johnson has been a disappointment so for. I know he's been getting double teamed, but he's been there 3 seasons now and knows the ins ands outs having played with and behind some solid former LSU DT's. I expected him to be constantly disrupting shite. He should be using pro moves by now to find ways of beating double teams sometimes like going around Ego Ferguson to get to the QB. Also, he's been average against the run with RB's running right past him. I hope he turns it around.

To the OP, so youre basically saying we need better D-line play then, not linebacker. You see, linebacker play isnt about penetration. They play 5 yards off the ball for a reason. If the D-line, specifically interior can fill the gaps, then the backs dont have anywhere to run now do they. "Line"backers scrape and fill the remaning holes. It starts up front.

That's because Tahj Jones is listed at 205 lbs. How in the frick he plays linebacker, I will never know.

If you think Hatcher was as good as Welter you're nuts

Welter is an average SEC LB. If we'd recruited more evenly he would be a backup for us. I think he will be second string by the end of the year, but his pass coverage will keep him in the rotation. These posters who think Welter is terrible are morons.

Be honest everyone. Welters play this season has been horrible. The last game he played much better.

I think some in here have ponted out what my concern is as well... and that is how we're getting pushed off the line leading to consistent gains up the middle.

Soft up the middle - its ok if thats how we're talking about women, but not defense. I dont recall the last time we were soft up the middle, esp with whats arguably considered to be the best DT tandem in FBS. To me, thats stunning. Forget all this double team BS talk. You think Ego or Freak are the first two LSU STs to ever be double teamed?

If those guys cant anchor the line, our LBers will be making tackles 4-5 yards downfield every time.

The only person on defense that deserves accolades right now IMO is Ego.

We're going to have to work in another DT to stop the run. I don't care if he gets no pressure on the qb. Just don't get pushed back or neutralized by one blocker.

Frankly, from what I've seen out of Lacouture he looks more natural in that aspect than Freak does, although admittedly its a small sample size. But he takes on double teams very well and the LOS doesn't part like the Red Sea when he's in.

With the linebacker play we have, if our DL can't neutralize the LOS with consistency we're in trouble. No negatiger just real talk. Freak is more of a situational, down and distance DT in my eyes.

Otherwise, Chavis is going to have to do things with scheme that we have not had to do in the past and that I've never seen him resort to.

did you see the TCU game? His pass coverage may be worse than his run support.

So ..... after all the experienced and proven talent we lost last year many of you thought we would simply put 11 guys out there this year and there would be no drop off? Why ... because the new guys put on the same beautiful LSU uniforms and they were approximately the same size as the old guys?? Much more often then not, it simply doesn't work that way. Give it time. Irrational whining and bitching is not going to make the growth process happen any faster.
