Our defense is the best of the 4 units that will be on the field Saturday

And I’m not sure it’s particularly close. Just like Lane and Charlie have been saving new stuff for this game, so has Blake. And if we can keep getting home with just 4, he can really pick his spots.

I expect a few big sacks and maybe forced fumbles from our secondary on some exotic blitzes by Benefield, Spears, and/or Woodland. The key will be getting them in 2nd and 3rd and longs, so it’s a big game for our DTs. I think they’re up to the challenge. Defense travels. The only way we lose this game is if we turn the ball over like we did against Tech. Which I think was an anomaly. If turnovers are equal, we win comfortably. They can’t beat us straight up. Our defense is too good.

Can we afford to spy 70% of the time on chambliss? And who would you put on him

The key for the entire team is weathering the emotional storm of the first quarter/half.

Get into half in a low-scoring game and pull away in the 3rd.

Yep. I think Chambliss is going to be running for his life all game long. Just have to keep him contained which is a whole lot easier said than done.

Just like everything, you have to mix it up. If you do everything majority of the time it will be schemed up with a counter. Have to shake up the looks.

That seems pretty high, so I doubt it. But I have no idea what the typical percentage is when defenses spy a mobile QB.

I’d think the obvious answer is either Weeks or Dottery, whichever Blake thinks is worse at dropping into coverage. But I’d imagine he’ll change it up a bit and give them as many different looks as possible. This is one of the advantages we have with Lane. He knows every look Chambliss has ever seen. I’d imagine he spends more time with Blake and in defensive meetings this week than normal.

Agreed. From what I have seen to date (from both teams), our front 6 (DL/LB) has a chance to really impact this game and give OM fits. We need them to play upfield and tackle well ALL game.

On the back end I think B Baker wants to go man to man on the outside to free up Spears and Benefield more to keep an eye on Chambliss & keep him from running (and moving the chains) on key downs/distances. Our CB's must be up to the task. They are going to take some shots downfield; we need to be running stride for stride with them.

At the end of the night I think our DEF is the best unit on the field between both teams and will be a HUGE reason we win this game.

I believe this to be true, but we will really find out just how good this week. Clemson, while a top D1 program, is not a top 10 caliber program coming off a final 4 run. It's going to be a 12 round bout.

I agree that our defense is light years better than last season in terms of DE play and pressure and DT depth. Whit played injured in last year's game too. Dottery is an upgrade to West and Spears is better suited at Star vs Perkins.

We have not played a mobile QB yet and although Chambliss isn't going to be breaking off huge runs, he keeps plays alive with his feet and burns you when plays break down. Contain him early and then ramp up the exotic blitzes. Shut Lacy down and make Ole Miss one dimensional. I'd rather we control the flow of the game early rather than get overly aggressive and give up a broken play.

I'd say it's in this order:

1. LSU Defense
2. Ole Miss Offense
3. LSU Offense
4. Ole Miss Defense

We're a better team, but Saturday is going to be a butthole tightening experience. Ole Miss is gonna throw some haymakers, and Trinidad can straight up take over against any defense.
