OTB 7/27: Ed O interview

-Happy 60th Birthday Coach O
-They've been in Cancun with the boys and got the batteries recharged and ready to get to work
-Proud of Derek & Austin at SEC Media days. First time for Derek speaking publicly on that platform
-Feels great about the football team. Not concerned about the preseason talk. All about the grind
-Report August 5th and practice begins on August 6th. 30 days to get better.
-Camp schedule no more two a days. Guys come in better shape now days. installation and meetings. 3 hour practices.
-LB room is full of talent. Mike Jones, Bugg Strong, Damone Clark. Mentions of Sampah and Penn
-4 preseason games during camp. All positions are going to compete.
-Hester really wants to see the interior defensive line. Watch out for Joe Evans. Maason Smith. Roy is in the best shape. Loves the depth.
-Recruiting wise LSU is having "Boys from the Boot" this weekend. Austin Thomas and Mason Smith are some of the best in the business.

No one seems to be talking about Baskerville. I thought he was playing pretty well towards the end of the season.

Mod on premium board was surprised O let this out, it was supposed to be a secret supposedly. So either O had another "why did you say that" moment or he's trying to put the pressure on some local kids to make it here vs. Bama, as they have their BBQ event this weekend.
Probably interesting to watch what Shazz, Law, Moss et al do this weekend.

Multitudes of reasons but main one is they were probably trying to quietly get their actual top LA targets in without upsetting the ones we arent honing in on right now.
A.K.A. dont want to upset the kids "not invited" to it as the intention of this year's event seems to be lets get a smaller group of guys we really want now on campus and focus on them rather than have several dozen kids come in and nobody really gets much focus.
This is what the mod basically hinted to why they were keeping it mostly quiet.

If you’re Inviting that many high schoolers to campus no way it stays a secret anyway. Atleast one if not most would post something on social media. Better to be open than “secret info” released by recruits. All these recruits that are elite talk to each other and know each other from camps. I feel like this is just some BS O slander.

I think the bigger thing missing here is now that it's this public you have the twitter folks now messaging all the LA kids "HEY WHERE U GOING THIS WEEKEND" and crap like that...imagine being the recruit who gets bothered about that and dont have an invite, wouldn't be great.
In the past, Boys from the boot was a huge event that had literally like the Top 50 or players from the current class attend it, then maybe a dozen more from the next class as well. So basically you werent really worried about upsetting someone without an invite because literally anyone we would really recruit got the invite.
I would guess this time around they are only having maybe a dozen or two 2022 kids on campus then some select 2023 kids.

I didn't think he was back on the team yet. Did he get his grades back in order over the spring and summer?

Could be wrong but I think he has been reinstated. Hopefully so. If he could put on another 7-10 pounds, I think he could have a really good season. He has good instincts and fills the hole quickly...just looks like sometimes he’s outweighed at contact.

Think of how fragile kids are these days, it certainly makes sense why they wanted to keep this a secret if it was going to be a smaller event rather than the very large Boys from the Boot events we've had in the past. There are some incessantly bad people on social media.
