For which years? The last few years the talent has fallen off, not close to the 2010-2012 teams, which is still on Miles but a separate issue

ETA: 2016 there was enough talent to make a run, save for QB which is why Miles is gone

2012 is a strange one, they lost 3 but all were close and to top 10 teams, 2 on the last play. For me it's not really underachieving but a combo of mistakes and bad decisions. Good enough to win it all.

Since then have been mediocre and there has been a noticeable drop in talent.

yea, but last 3+ years, with all that talent,

we had 4 players drafted off that 2014 team.
we had 5 players drafted off that 2015 team

6 different sec programs either equaled or surpassed the number of lsu players drafted in the NFL

you can't tout the talent and then dismiss the low number of players drafted in the nfl in 2 of those years

For reference I went back and looked up the composite recruiting rankings. I went to 2009 since those would be seniors on the 2012 team.

2009: Rank 1
2010: Rank 9
2011: Rank 8
2012: 247 has an error for that year: ESPN: 14; Rivals: 18
2013: Rank 6
2014: Rank 2
2015: Rank 5
2016: Rank 2

and 8 drafted off the '16 team. And 3 of those 8 (Fournette, Adams, White) were first round picks, and they all started from day 1 at LSU from 2014-16.

You can't just look at one year, it's a rolling number.

For example, that 2014 team had 17 (!!) players drafted: 4 from the '14 team, 5 from the '15 team (they had to be at least sophomores on the 2014 team given the NFL's 3-year from high school rule), and the '14 team also had the 8 drafted this year from the '16 team (they would've been freshmen).

17 future NFL draftees on that 2014 team that went 4-4 in the SEC, 2-4 against the West.

that's not true. I've proven this to be bullshite multiple times and you keep regurgitating this tired and false myth

2014 nfl talent 2015 draft

4 players drafted

7 sec programs had more players selected in the NFL draft

we had 1 ALL SEC 1st team player

2015 lsu football team nfl talent (2016 draft]

5 players drafted in the NFL
(bama has as many players drafted in the 2nd rd alone as lsu's entore draft class)
5 sec programs had as many or more draft picks as lsu

we had all of 1 all sec 1 team player

so stop with this nfl talent all over the field.
just attribute the drop in talent to miles

you're counting true freshman as nfl players?

Read my last line, Rick: "17 future NFL draftees." That is simply a fact, and I know how you love facts. That usually, but not always, means that have a ton of talent.

Freshman can, and do, play and contribute heavily - LF, Adams, and White were all starters as freshmen from day 1.

do I need to list our 2004 roster that lost 3 games or will you just admit that we didn't have nfl talent all over the field in 2014 & 2015.

I've never compared Miles to Saban. Others on this board do, but I look at Miles on his own.

but if miles was underachieving WITH ALL THAT NFL TALENT then so was Saban. that's my point. do you see all that FUTURE nfl talent on that 2001 roster?

our recruiting dipped a bit we missed out on some beasts in the trenches and we got hit by draft eligible juniors like no other program.

the loss in talent is squarely on miles but postees acting like we were this really talented team in 2014 and 2015 either are biased or don't know what they are seeing when watching a football game.

it was my recollection that they were. My bad. Please change "starters from day 1" to "played a whole fricking lot."

Jeez, Fournette had a 1000 yard year in 2014.

no they(players) lost two arguably including the auburn screw job, saban lost that bowl game and you know why preventing them from winning 10 in an only 11 game regular season. they only played 12 total. they were not guaranteed 13 games like during les' tenure. everybody here seems to have lost sight of that fact. You only got 13 games IF you made it to atlanta back then.

also, saban was only in his 2nd year in 2001 regardless of who eventually made it to the NFL. he was still building our program. he did not take over a ferrari as did les. If anybody thinks saban would not have eclipsed les had he stayed they are kookoo for cocoa puffs.
