In my personal view, had LSU had a good QB they would probably of been the best team last year. I have questions regarding the 2011 LSU team.
1)Will LSU have a good QB developed in time to play UO? The one chief week link was QB last year for LSU. Will that link be corrected in time?
2)Will LSU mesh with your new OC and his new offense in time? First game of the year, cob webs usually show then. Plus this is a new offense for you, new OC. What is your thoughts in this department?
3)Besides QB, what are your other weakness's you see perhaps with your team in this first game?

For UO, the Defense will be even better then last year- who was the only team able to stop Cam. The D looses tons of players, but after playing 22 guys in rotation last year much experience is not lacking. The D should be even better in 2011. And we have awesome DB's that are proven ball hawks. Teams quickly find out not to pass against us. If your going to beat us, you will have to run against us. Our Offense is our major concern two-fold: O-line, WR's. We lost our irreplaceable 2 WR's. We are hoping a few of the 4 freshman arriving this summer will step up. We might be really down in passing this year as a result. We are also loosing 3 O-Linemen. So far our O-line is doing terrible. We may not be able to run close to what we did last year as a result unless some guys improve. In total, our whole O-line is a major week link, and with having to depend on so many new WR's, our passing to them is in major doubt. It would not shock me to see our D being two notches better then last year, but our record setting Offense being 3 notches down for 2011.

Your thoughts on your team for their first game?
I don't know about you all, but I cannot wait till September for this game. The media is saying whoever wins this game will more then likely be ranked #1 after winning, whoever that is. Should be a intense game. I cannot wait! Only 4 more agonizing months...

No, but JJ always performs best with extra time to prepare. Since this is the first game of the year, he'll be prepared for the game.

LSU isn't changing the offense. Running the same offense as last year, just going downfield a little bit more.

Linebackers and Chavis's problems with the spread option.

Lsu will have a defense light years ahead of Auburn. But our Qb issues, and that's putting it lightly, will still be there.

I would suspect that you are going to get a heavy dose of Spencer Ware setting up some PA bombs.

Jump balls to 6'4" 207lb Randle vs 5'11" 165 Harris. Advantage LSU

1) Yes we'll have a good QB developed in time; however, he probably won't be starting... Still, JJ will be up for the game.
2) Good question. Probably so, as they're sort of simplifying what they were doing last year. Simplifying could greatly benefit JJ, as well as other guys new to starting on offense.
3) QB. Oh, besides QB? Other receivers; Randle is our most proven commodity. Don't overlook D.Peterson, though.

Let me mention, though, your OLine will pose significant problems for you if they are behind. We have one frickin STELLAR front 4 coming for your backfield.

One thing we know: Give Les enough time and he'll have LSU ready to hunt bears with sticks. JJ is a problem but he's better early, gets worse as the season wears on (don't ask). Get ready to know Ware - really well. Oline shud be a strong suit. Dline may need a coupla games to get going so you prolly won't see a bull rush. LSU fans? Expect at least 25,000 of us inside. Tigers win, but must come back to do it.

probably a lot more than that, I think we were allocated 40k tickets, and we will buy up whatever UO doesn't use

I dunno about UO's defense being better this year like you say. From all accounts, the secondary will be lights out, so I'm with you there Ducks. Even being a huge Lsu homer and knowing our backups, I wouldn't be excited to see an exodus like the Ducks had on my team. That OLine is trouble! I'm looking at YOU Karrington Armstrong. 270 Lbs Center called up and baptised by fire, yikes.

Holy shite, I checked it out and they have this guy listed at 260 and he has only played in one game against Portland State. If he is going to be the starter, that could be really, really bad for the Ducks.

ETA: This article from the end of March says the position battle for center is between Grasu (6-foot-3, 278 pounds) and Armstrong (6-2, 260)

The Mett hype is really starting to get old. Is he a good prospect? Sure. Is he the savior people make him out to be? Most certainly not if he can’t beat-out statistically one of the worst starters in the nation.

If we simplify the offense anymore we’re gonna be running nothing but 4 sticks and 4 goes in the passing game.

Yea for me I’d list my concerns, outside of QB, for this season as follows (not in order):

1. Real WRs stepping up along-side Randle. Whether it’s Shep, Landry, Boone, Wright, whomever. I give part of the reason for the lack of productivity to Crowton’s kindergarten offense and Stevie Wonder/Jefferson at QB, but some of it is due to lack of separation on the WRs’ part.

2. LB play. It’s going to be simply impossible to replace Shep in the middle. I have as much faith in Chavis as I do any coach on our staff outside of Cooper and I’ve always thought Minter has tons of potential. Add in the move of Hatcher to SAM which should give that position a serious shot of production (it was awful last year) and I think we’ll be alright as a unit, but teams will try to run right at us as opposed to side-to-side like they did last year. It’ll be up to Brockers/Freak to help Minter out up the middle.

3. OL play. Until I see a truly dominant unit I’ll continue to be concerned. Assuming the LT position is locked up and T-Bob is nowhere near the field, this could be the year that we truly see the dominant group we’ve been promised for so long (given we stay healthy and have no serious injuries).

4. DL depth. The top guys are studs, period. However we don’t go as deep as we have in the past, and we could be in trouble if we get hit with the injury bug.

JJ27 pretty much nailed it with his first answers.

JJ ok with time to prepare, linebackers the biggest concern, plus Chavis sometimes struggles containing the spread.

Well done.

The reason you were able to stop Cam was a great scheme. Instead of the conventional keep 1 person as spy, UO kept 1 guy on each side of the field as a spy. It forced Newton to stay in the middle of the field and at the same time covered any passes in the flats.

We will run on them but JJ is going to have to make some throws to open it up. That part scares me.

The last time we played an elite OOC team during the regular season, several things are similar to this game.

We played VT early in '07 and they were a top 10 team. We heard for 8 months how tough they were, how the defense was so good, how everything was just in their favor.....

PuhLeeeez. No offense, cause I like Oregon much more than USC, but this game will keep you out of the NC race for more than one year. You will be sick of the SEC! SEC! SEC! Chants by halftime.
