You will here a bunch of hand times thrown out there throughout the offseason, but when it comes to actual testing they set up the laser system. They do the real testing for all Max's and such about two weeks before media day/ camp. I'm sure he would quote that time over a hand timed 40

He was a converted TE but that is still remarkably fast for a 255 pound kid. That would be faster than any other DE at last year's combine outside of the NEVADA LB that will be a pass rushing OLB.

Btw, it was a radio guy saying it on the air who was told by Moffit...allegedly.

Questionable. Not saying they aren't very fast but the SEC is running on real grass in most games they play. I know as far as LSU goes when we play on turf we look even faster than on grass. And we are quite successful when playing on the fake stuff...see bowl games.

Topwater - the fake stuff will make us look better as well. Field conditions are the same for both teams.

Oregon's speed is legit. This is not to diminish your speed but to say that Oregon's speed on the hoof will be comparable.

It seems most of the games are on the fake stuff? Am I wrong?

Most games are but we play on grass at several venues each year in the Pac (ASU and Stanford come to mind).

Going back to the BCSCG in '07, the issue wasn't that tOSU was slow, but rather that they played slow competition. SEC treams are not only fast, but play against comparable speed week after week. That's an advantage.

And don't forget that LSU played in Jerryworld this past Jan.

This is my whole point about speed. We play Florida, Bama, Auburn, Arkansas every year and they all have speed. This year you can include W.V. also. It is arguable that Oregon will NOT be the fastest team LSU plays but I would think we will be the fastest team Oregon plays.

Oregon has faced many talented big backs the last two seasons.

Well if you prefer words LINK

Notice how fast and physical the defense of the 7th ranked Ducks is. A lesser team would have let TG7 go for 300 or maybe even 400 yards rushing while setting his school's rushing record. Forgive my skepticism if you will.

This conversation would have ended awhile ago if this was how it started. Oregon faces the fastest defense they play in the pac every day against themselves. That is what I am saying. That, and we just came off of playing Auburn, so all the players are expecting the speed.

Duck fans run their mouths a lot while SEC schools just pile up the crystal footballs in the trophy case.

However, I will give Darron Thomas props for winning the NCAA nose picking championship:

I have seen so many post by Oregon fans lately and it all has to do with how fast the ducks are. LSU fans know the ducks are fast but it doesn't scare us b/c we play speed almost every w/e.

My opinion is our speed will be more of a shock to the ducks than Oregons speed will be to LSU....since LSU plays a lot of teams with speed.

Exactly. Anyone who says Oregon isn't fast is just a damned idiot. Oregon is fast, the fastest team in the Pac-12. But they aren't used to playing the speed/size combination LSU brings to the table. There are other fast teams in the pac, but none of them have the size to go with it.

I personally think Oregon is gonna get hit in the mouth early and often. Not long after the game starts they'll realize their speed alone is not going to win them the game.

It's gonna come down to whether or not Oregon can take a hit and get back up...

What you're failing to realize is that all of those bums from that defense graduated, and UO has replaced them with far superior talent. Now, they haven't actually seen them play in a game yet...but no have no doubt, they are superior to every player that graduated. Also, Cliff Harris..."best cover corner in the world"...will be out. But it's OK, because the backup is even better. The backup return guy is too...

... And what on earth would make little LSU, a team that can barely compete with the sunbelt, think that it could have any semblance of a rushing attack against the team that put up such a performance against 8-5 juggernaut Stanford. It was like the Steel Curtain. Such speed and physicality. They chased Toby Gerhart 223 yards around the field. His paltry 3 touchdown performance was laughable. Big physical backs give that defense no trouble at all.

Players in the Pac10 are probably faster than SEC players IMO. It has more to do with their typical smaller size.. offensive based schools.

I think it's the overall talent that separates the two conferences. The coaching too. Whether we like to admit it or not.. talent is everywhere.

Oregon will be step for step with us in speed. I'm not so sure about size/freakish factor though.

At the skill positions I would agree.

Ever since 2006 when tOSU was preparing to demolish UF, I've noticed that the entire nation has no clue of the definition of "SEC speed". It's the DLs speed that makes the difference. I don't care if Ted Ginn was fast. UFs secondary was fast too. But it didn't matter, because poor Troy Smith couldn't outrun the UF DEs...toting that heavy Heisman around and all.
