Guice looked good Saturday--and this is a testament to just how good he is--but I'm not convinced he's 100%. There's no way he missed that much practice due to wisdom teeth. (And our very own Bilj testified to him coming up gimpy after a goal line play during the last scrimmage).

Also, DWill looked really good--thank God he came in in such good shape--but I was surprised Guice wasn't in on a couple of those series in the 2nd half. I know he had a lot of 1st half carries, but I don't think your All-American RB typically wouldn't have sat so much in the 4th unless it was something a bit more than just being gassed.

Imagine if this year we end up bitching about teams not stacking the box against our running game lol.

Not sure how to allude to optics, but BYU played a prevent defense the entire game. On his longer runs, if they had been stacking the box he could've gotten through and busted off some long runs. Their defensive strategy takes away a lot of the big plays.

I think he would have broken a big one had he stayed in. If he ran in the fourth, he would have had 200 yards rushing.

His performance didn't jump off the screen last week like it did last year. You think it's because it was unexpected last year or was he a different back last weekend?

I think most people are unaware or underappreciate how well BYU is coached in tackling and angles of pursuit.
He wasn't breaking 2nd level tackles like he WILL do against the lower-tier SEC teams.

"Allude is a verb that means to call attention to something without coming right out and mentioning it. It means "to hint at" something.

Elude is a verb that means to evade or escape.

Illude is a verb that means to deceive or trick"

Its really a pretty fricked up series of words. I can see why English is the hardest language to learn.

O said he wasn't 100%, and it was noticeable, but I didn't pick up on it until I rewatched all his carries. Didn't have the insane energy he usually has. He absorbed hits and stayed on his feet very well still, which is a testament to his ridiculous strength and balance. BYU's decision to keep high safeties prevented the big play, but within the room they gave him you could see that he was a little drained/sluggish. He'll be back to form soon I'm sure.

I think we fed him too early too often. 12 in the 1st quarter and 20 by half. Have to put him in fresh against a tired D to break open that YPC

We need to rotate more, not ride one guy hard at a time

I never understand why some people seemingly watch games only to find something to poke at and gripe about.

And him doing well wasn't unexpected last year you fool

No illusion, whole different offense. Doesn't have that fullback springing him free like last season. Get used to seeing Guice scrap for every yard he gets this season.

BYU finished with the #7 overall Rush defense last season. It might be a new year, but I doubt they are going to fall far, if at all this season. Guice did fine against a stout D, and was close to a few big ones to the house as well.

Guice averaged 4.5 yards per attempt against a 6 man front

Tough yards and BYU had some very big guys on the line and Guice may have not been full speed.

He will put up some yards in the next few games

Giuce made big runs last year due to breaking through the line and having a lot of room to run. BYU played more safe and got him at the second level and they made a few great tackles one on one. He is fine! He ran hard for what he got- Def was not that bad against the run, he had to earn every yard

Guice played a lot of bad defenses last year. Between Southern Miss, Jacksonville St, Mizzu, Arky, and TAMU, he had 1017 yards and 12 TDs with no game lower than 7.7 ypc. Those were the games where he had at least 16 carries.

When he played tougher defenses it looked like the BYU game (Florida, Louisville). He also had an odd low rushing average (3.56 ypc) game against Ole Miss as well.

Still, he's a beast.
