This isnt about the ticket anymore. Its about the improper benefits. The ticket is the perfrct example of what my momma always tells me. "whats done in the dark always comes to the light"
Noone thinks OREGON is going to get hammered. This is a clear case of impermissable benefits. Oregon will self report. The NCAA will investigate, and this will turn out a lot like A.J. Green at UGA and Marcell Dareus at Bama. They will pay momey to charity, and more than likely, serve a 1-2 game suspension.
No one here thinks it will be anything like USC got, or what tOSU is going to get. There will be no LOIC tag are anything of that nature.

Bison, I am so glad you are not our head coach. For one you would suspend Cliffy for a simple traffic violation. Two, you would of told your team in the locker-room, "hey guys, try hard, but you do not have a chance because I have went on LSU's TD and predicted over 20 times you all will lose anyway."
Stop Kissing arse on here Bison, it is getting old very quick!
Your grammar is atrocious...

Unfortunately, 7thWard, I actually believe the players thought they were okay by paying the rental fee. It was more naiveté than anything.

A suspension would include LSU since it's the next game. I would be very surprised if CK suspended him for any other.
Agreed, but I've seen schools weasel around things like this before. All it takes if for a university investigation to last until after the game before stating their conclusions. After all, they do want to be thorough.

Damn it! I was going to crack a joke about having to pay "a renal fee", but you had to go and fix it!
Posted on 6/14/11 at 9:45 pm to DocBugbear
However, renal has to do with the kidneys but, yeah, I could see where that would go and changed it.
Posted on 6/14/11 at 9:47 pm to bisonduck
If Oregon is into Renal we are screwed.

I'm calling bullshite on all of the "he didn't know" crap.
After all that has gone on this year, are you really trying to get me to fricking believe Kelly didn't have a talk with the starting qb and all am corner about benefits?
Screw you Oregan fans, there is no way in hell these guys weren't schooled on this!
There is a reason they didn't ask Kelly to pay him for his car.

We are trying to keep common sense out of this argument so DucksflyinPac can be a contributing poster.

The Cam Newton defense is all the rage these days. The NCAA should never have accepted that one.

You are actually saying what I believe most people are thinking. A 1 or 2 game suspension seems about right using past comparable indiscretions from the NCAA.
Now lets wait and see if its going to be the LSU game or not. That is the real question.

I just hope the rumor that DT was in the car wasn't true. I would hate for Oregon to walk into Cowboy Stadium crippled.

Btw, most likely there is two other players involved in this. Cliff just happened to be cited because he was the driver. The players did pay for the use of the car. It's a bit murkey about the benefit and that is why there is varying opinions. However, I do think the players were thinking that if they paid, they were okay. This sort of thing is up to interpretation.
I just hope CLIFF is the FALL GUY. Let him fall on the sword for being an idiot.

Williford said there is a possibility the woman violated NCAA rules by giving Harris the car. He said UO officials have talked with the employee and will continue talking to her. The school has also alerted the Pac-10 conference about the possible violation.
Yes, but as these things go, only the compliance office knows for sure.
...And yeah, I sure hope it wasn't DT that showed his license to her. It would suck if he missed the game too.

DucksflyinPAC, the issue you are missing here is that the car Harris was driving he could not have rented himself. Consequently, that makes it an NCAA infraction (an impermissible benefit) whether he paid for it or not. If Oregon takes your approach and decides it's insignificant, the NCAA will likely step in an impose some punishment. As Oregon does not want that to happen, they will probably err on the side of making the punishment tougher. Harris will inevitably miss some playing time. We'll see if it includes LSU or not.
OH my goodness. It's funny the level of assuming things and jumping to conclusions. Yes, you caught us. We are like Bama. We secretly give all our players new cars. We cheat with the NCAA like a bad mother 'f'er. I must also confess Oregon was also the second shooter on the grassy noel.
It's all really simple. Cliff and 3 friends, 2 who are also Football players- had a female friend. As that woman has testified to the local media, she only loaned out that car to the licensed driver and only thought he was going to drive it. Since she had to go North and they wanted to go North on their own trip, they talked her into renting it a few extra days and they would just drop her off along the way for her own situation. So they car pooled half of the way. And they would all chip in and pay for the few days extra on the rental. It was 4am coming back, and the older licensed driver got tired driving. So he let Cliffy drive. Because it was 4 AM on a deserted stretch of Freeway. Cliffy let into her, the car, speeding.
Was this a pay for play or big conspiracy? I am laughing if you think it was. Was this a extra benefit? Oh my the retardation is hilarious. Should Cliffy get punishment for speeding and such? Ya, he already got it in the form of a large fine and immediate license suspension from the Oregon department of motor vehicles.
Acting or pretending like the NCAA should act on this is hilarious. What, has anyone out here ever loaned a car? Has anyone out here switched turns driving late at night before? I know it is a slow sports cycle, but come on, there could not be a more none story then this.
HEADLINES: 20 year old caught speeding at 4am on a deserted freeway. Driver just happened to be a All American. But wait, it gets better. Rental customer even is a employee of the University. So by assumption, that must mean she was giving him gifts and free cars. Oh wait, you mean to tell me Cliffy and his friends all chipped in to pay her for the extra 2 days of the rental car's use? Oh, I see. And she was the friend of one of the passengers and the main driver for the car? Oh, I see. And that driver just got tired and asked everybody if there was someone that would please take a turn driving back home as it was 4am and he could not drive straight anymore? So Cliffy volunteers to drive. But he speeds and gets caught.
ESPN is so freaking bored with no news stories... and well, you all are too with all of these conspiracies on here.
Sorry, but Cliffy will be in the LSU game.
I know having the best Corner Back in the game is frightful, but he is going to play. He can work out his driving privileges and fines another way. And that is between him and the department of motor vehicles.
